In Memory of
Gerald Joe Tackett
-

It has pleased God Almighty in His infinite wisdom to take unto Himself the soul of Gerald Joe Tackett, beloved husband, respected father, treasured grand and great-grand father. This Christian man was a child of God through the gift of baptism and beautifully exemplified God’s love on Earth.

As a young man, he graduated from Texas A&M College of Architecture in 1955 and at his death is now officially retired from his more than 60 year career. Gerald’s first self employed commission was Houston’s Memorial Lutheran Church. And this is where he faithfully brought his family for fifty-five years to commune and hear the word of God declared. Gerald sang in the choir for decades and served as Elder until his last days on earth. Of all the beautiful structures he designed, Gerald is most proud of his family, whom he leaves behind instilled with the hope of our joyous reunion and eternal life in Christ Jesus.

Janice Christine Tackett has loved him and stood beside him for 58 years of marriage. Together they raised six children, Steven and Vonda Tackett, Karen and John Listi, Kristin and Stuart Lowery, Lara and Jason Ogden, Mark and Becky Tackett, Dana and Scott George. God further blessed Gerald with 21 grandchildren whom he adored: Emily and Audra Tackett. Jordan (wife Taylor and great grandchildren, Mila and Sawyer), Hannah, Joshua, and Rebekah Listi. Tyler, Kaleigh, Kaitlynn, Tanner, and Kirstyn Harvey. Jack, Ryan, Madeline, and Olivia Ogden. Danielle, Riley, and Elosie Tackett. Braden, Luke, and Katherine George.

In Gerald’s world, there were two kinds of people: Family and those he treated like family. He cared for them all with an abundant, generous, overflowing love. His business partner, architect David Slattery, was like a son to Gerald, following in his footsteps, and Jeannie Stockton, dear friend and partner, was the only one who understood his filling system.

Gerald was preceded in death by his mother and father, William and Bertha Tackett and his brothers William and Andrew Tackett.

Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. John 14:1-3

"But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do, who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep." 1 Th 4:13

It is not the beauty of a building you should look at; it’s the construction of the foundation that will stand the test of time.

Janice and all of your precious family, we are so saddened to hear of the passing of Gerald. He was one of the finest men that we have had the privilege to call our friend. We know that Heaven was made much brighter when he stepped into the presence of our Lord and Savior. Where did the years go? It seems like only yesterday that your Kristen and our Dale were in kindergarten and we had the pleasure of getting to know the Tackett family. Even though we haven't been around for the last several years, your family has always been very dear to us and we thought of y'all often. Please know that we love you and you are all in our thoughts and prayers. "HOLD ON TO ALL OF YOUR PRECIOUS MEMORIES AS THEY HAVE NOW BECOME YOUR GREATEST TREASURES".
