Jo Ann McMullen Lanier

Jo Ann McMullen Lanier went home to be in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on February 1, 2018.   She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Pastor Leland Lanier. She is survived by two sons, Steve and wife Norma, Glenn and wife Kathy and one daughter Janet and husband Chuck. One brother David and two sisters Bobbie and Madilyn. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Jo Ann was a devoted wife who alongside her husband served as a missionary in Japan for ten years. Her love for the Japanese people was evident in the many tears she cried when they returned to the USA. She continued to serve at Northline Baptist Church for ten years then 26 years at Northwest Baptist Church, both in Houston, TX. She used her knowledge of the Bible to teach Sunday school and to speak at many Ladies retreats. She was a beautiful example of what a Godly wife, Pastor’s wife, mother and Christian friend should be.

Her love, dedication and unselfish sacrifice to her husband and children is best described in Proverbs 31: 28 “Her children rise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her”.  Although Alzheimer’s took her ability to speak in the last few months, her love and compassion for others was evident in her smile, her eyes and her back scratches. We will miss her dearly.
