In Memory of
Margaret Grace Winn
-

Margaret Grace Winn was born on November 24, 1937, in San Benito, Texas. She was a first generation American and a native Texan. She passed away peacefully on May 15, 2017, and is now praising her Savior in heaven.

She is survived by her son: John Neubauer and wife Kim and grandson John III and wife Bethany, daughters: Christine Neubauer, Lisa Longridge and husband Kent and granddaughters - Sarah, Shannen, and Samantha. Sister: Dolores Guedin, nephews Robert, Tim and wife Susan with grandnephew Timothy, niece Bonnie Wykes. Brother: Rudolf B. Bendixen Jr. and wife Kay, nieces - Karen and husband Cliff Pennington with daughter Donna; Suzanne with daughters Sophia, Kyra and Victoria; nephew - Rudolf Bendixen and wife Rachelle with sons Rudolf, Victor and Isaac. Numerous cousins.

Margaret possessed an unwavering belief that she was a child of God, saved by God's Grace and Christ's sacrifice. She believed that God had bestowed on her a fierce determination to do well and an affinity for math. She had the talent to explain mathematics in such a way that made it easier for others to learn. She loved going to school and wanted to learn everything there was to know.  "Can't" was not in her vocabulary. Margaret was involved in Girl Scouts and became a Senior Mariner Scout and achieved the highest rank awarded. She would say that she learned more in scouting of life skills than she learned in anything else she ever did.

When she finished high school, Margaret married an Air Force officer and due to frequent moves, it took seventeen years to complete her college degree.  She attended five different colleges and universities while raising three children.  She eventually earned degrees in math and education from Pacific Lutheran University.  At Calallen ISD in Corpus Christi, Texas, she taught math and science for twenty-two years. She retired in 1993 and went on to teach math as an adjunct at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi until 2001. Margaret loved teaching and continued to tutor students from high school in the ensuing years.

During the early years of her children's life, Margaret taught Sunday school to preschoolers and grade schoolers. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and coached girls’ softball. She was very proud of her children and was their loudest cheerleader, never missing a single event in which they participated. Margaret was an active member in LWML at all churches of which she was a member and sang in the choir. She was active in the Bandera County Retired Teachers Association and the District Retired Teachers Association, serving as treasurer for many years. She served as president for the Bandera Fine Arts club and participated in the Kerrville Performing Arts Society.

Margaret loved to read, mostly mystery or similar fiction and her hands were never idle. She loved embroidery, crochet, quilting, cross stitch and needle point. Gardening was also something she loved, planting flowers and taking care of her yard. The highlight of her week was always attending church. She loved learning in Bible class and enjoyed the fellowship and discussion with others in the class.

The family wishes to extend our sincerest gratitude to the many caregivers and therapists who cared for Margaret during her stroke recovery. Special thanks to those at Fairbanks Court Assisted Living who became her extended family during the past nine months, and to Beresford Funeral Service for your caring assistance.

A celebration of life will take place at Messiah Lutheran Church (9401 Dietz Elkhorn Rd, Boerne, TX 78015) on June 9, 2017, at 2:00 p.m.
