In Memory of
Marian Clara Nouvertne
-

Marian Nouvertne passed away peacefully on January 20, 2018 in Houston, Texas.  She was born on August 30, 1927 to parents Marion and Jabez Powell in Union, New Jersey.

Following her graduation from Union High School, she met Elwood Nouvertne after he returned from serving in the Army infantry during WWII.  They married in Union, NJ in 1948 and soon bought their first home in West Orange, New Jersey where they had three children, Mary, Ernest, and David.  In 1969 they relocated to Epping, New Hampshire where Marian became very active in local church and town activities.  She loved cooking for friends and volunteering for town events that included numerous weddings, birthday celebrations, anniversaries, and funerals.  Her beloved husband passed away in 1995 and in 2002 due to health reasons, she moved to Houston, Texas to be closer to her daughter.  In 2003, the unfortunate effects of dementia and her requiring more assistance necessitated a move to a nursing facility in Tomball, Texas to which she adapted very quickly.  In 2014 she relocated to Brookdale Champions Assisted Living.  She enjoyed the people at Brookdale, participated in activities, and developed many friendships with residents, staff, and volunteers. She loved Sunday worship services, particularly singing the traditional hymns.

Marian is preceded in death by her husband Elwood Nouvertne, son David Nouvertne, sister Kathy Horner, nephew Kevin Anderson, mother Marion Hatterman, and father Jabez Powell.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Klein and husband David Klein of Spring, Texas; son, Ernest Nouvertne and wife Emily Nouvertne of Berry, Kentucky; grandchildren Sarah Kelly and husband Mike Kelly of Foster, Kentucky, Megan Nouvertne of Lexington, Kentucky, Shannon Klein and Dawson Klein of Spring, Texas and great-granddaughter Ashlynn Kelly of Foster, Kentucky.  She also leaves behind her sister Gloria Plummer of Plainfield, New Hampshire and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family gives special thanks to Mr. Robert Johnson, a private caregiver, who assisted her and provided special care.  Not only did he help in times of need, Marian and Robert developed a special friendship that lasted for over seven years.  She often vocalized “I want Bobby” to her regular caregivers.  He provided her more love, laughter and spiritual guidance than anyone could ask for.  We also thank the drivers, housekeepers, cooks, nurses, managers, and caregivers at Brookdale for all they did to assist Marian.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 2:00pm at Brookdale Senior Living (Champions), 14050 Cutten Road, Houston, TX 77069.  A memorial service and burial will be held in Epping, New Hampshire this coming Spring at a date to be determined.

Marian always said “give me flowers now, not when I’m dead” and we have made sure she had many flowers over the years.  If you wish to honor Marian’s memory, we recommend you find a nursing home, assisted living, or retirement center close to you.   Find out what they need and make a donation or be a volunteer.  Visiting an older person living in a nursing home, adopting a grandparent for your children/grandchildren, or doing something nice for a caregiver would be most generous.   If you prefer, simply make a donation to your favorite charity.  The family thanks you.
