In Memory of
Melvin Carol Karolyi
-

Melvin Karolyi, 75, passed away on March 26, 2018 at his home in Houston, Texas.  He was born on April 29, 1942 in Greenville, South Carolina to Edward and Ethel Karolyi, who precede him in death.

His father served in the U.S. Navy and, as a result, he and his family moved often.  Melvin spent the majority of his childhood in Miami, Florida and the rest of his young adult life in Agusta, Georgia.  It was there in Agusta that he would discover his first trade as a carpenter.  Following this event, Melvin moved on to the business of Offshore Navigation with a company called Wimpol.  This change in career paths brought about the most significant events in his life.  It gave him the opportunity to travel to places such as Brazil, Panama, Venezuela, and eventually Trinidad, where he would meet his wife, Allison.  They married on November 13, 1992 and settled down in Houston, Texas in 1994.  The following year, in 1995, they had their first born child, Karl.  Shortly following the arrival of their new child, Melvin left Wimpol and began work at a company named Electrolink.  In 1997, they had their second child, Nicholas.

When he wasn't working, Melvin would take any opportunity he had to spend time with his two sons.  Often he would take time to teach them how to do various outdoor activities, as well as passing down some of his skill sets.  He continued to work for Electrolink until 2006, when he eventually retired.  That same year, his third child, Hailey, was born.  Throughout his life, Melvin was fond of photography, archeology, astronomy, and reading.  In his days of retirement, he continued to pursue these hobbies extensively as well as a few others, such as make a garden, working on motorcycles, and, most importantly, being the most amazing father that his children needed.

Melvin will always be remembered for his benevolence, strong will, determination, and the unwavering love he displayed towards his family as time went by.  He and his family endured several hardships and he made many sacrifices in order to ensure that his loved ones had what they needed.  He was a role model who acted as a moral compass and placed the needs of others above himself.   His character will leave a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to have been part of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Allison (George) Karolyi; two sons, Karl Agustus Karolyi & his wife Mijung Jung, and Nicholas Jonathan Karolyi; his daughter, Hailey Meagan Karolyi; his brothers, Glenn Karolyi & wife Mary, and their 2 children, and Don Karolyi & wife Ceretha, and their daughter; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of Beresford Funeral Service.
