Richard Cordale Patton passed from this life at The Forum Hospice Center in Houston on Sunday, October 15, 2006. He was born April 18, 1936 in Freeport, Texas to Lewis Clifford and Myrtle M. Patton, the ninth of ten children. Richard lived in Freeport and graduated from Brazosport High School - Class of 1954. He was very active in sports, football, basketball and track. He went one year to Texas A&M, then attended the University of Corpus Christi and graduated from Howard Payne College. He also attended Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers W.C. (Curtis) Patton, Keaton Douglas Patton, John Thomas Patton, Jimmy Glynn Patton; and one sister Myrtle Louise Patton. Richard is survived by his four children, Richard C. Patton and wife Kathy of Clute, Texas; Stephen Patton and wife Julie of Bettendorf, Iowa; Paula Slater and husband Steve of Lake Jackson, Texas; and April Brown and husband Ken of Lewisville, Texas. Richard had fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Brothers who survive him are Lewis C. Patton and wife Dottie of Madisonville, Louisiana; Clyde A. Patton and wife Mary of Henderson, Texas; sisters Geraldine Marshall and husband Billy of Lake Jackson, Texas; Nell Brown and husband Owen of Lake Jackson, Texas, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and long school time friends.
Richard Patton will be laid to rest on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Old Zion Cemetery in Kennard, Texas. Services will be officiated by Richard's nephews Bill and Lennie Patton.
