Barbara Wetherell Ogilvie

Barbara Wetherell Ogilvie passed away on November 29, 2017 at the age of 73, surrounded by loved ones at her home in Spring, Texas.

She was born September 23, 1944 in Lake Forest, Illinois, the daughter of the late Carey Nelson (Nels) Wetherell and Margaret Foster Wetherell. She earned a bachelor’s degree in literature from Lawrence University  and a master’s degree from the University of Chicago.

Her professional career is highlighted by her extensive work at the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County to bring about Houston’s celebrated METRORail, one of the most traveled light rail systems in the United States.

She is preceded in death by her sister Margaret Wetherell Perfetto, and is survived by daughter Christine Ogilvie Hendren of North Carolina, son Michael Ogilvie of Spring, Texas, stepdaughter Shawn Ogilvie Hertzig of Illinois, stepson Donal Ogilvie of Illinois, sister Mary Wetherell Curl of Indiana, and grandchildren Morgan, Izaiah, Charlotte, Madeline, Nathaniel, Devereux and Faraday, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and very dear friends.

Barbara will also be missed by her many good friends at the Great Dane Rescue of Southeast Texas where she volunteered in her retirement, providing seven elderly Danes with a safe and loving home in their final years.

Barbara loved her life and considered every moment and experience a gift. She serves as a shining beacon of positivity, strength and willpower for her family and friends, who are forever grateful for her example and loving influence in their lives.
