In Memory of
Stella Lee Heuschkell

Stella Lee Heuschkell, 73, stepped into Heaven on December 1, 2017 in Houston, Texas.   She was born on October 23, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas to Frank and Cleo Heuschkell, and was the oldest of three daughters.

Stella is preceded in death by both her father, Frank Heuschkell and her mother, Cleo Heuschkell.    She is survived by two sisters:  Priscilla (Tim) Ferguson of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Liz (Tommy) Bridges of Katy, Texas.    Also surviving are one niece:  Sarah (Matt) Tyson, and five nephews:  Matthew (Lauren) Ferguson, Taylor and Nash Ferguson, Ryan (Amanda) Bridges, and Grant (Kayla) Bridges.    She is also survived by five great-nieces and nephews:   Kinsey, Katie, Caroline Tyson, Sam and Will Ferguson.

A graduate of Lafayette High School and University of Southwestern Louisiana (now ULL) in Lafayette, Stella was a Registered Nurse for over 40 years.  Stella knew early on that her calling in life was to be a nurse.   She was a gifted nurse and was passionate about taking care of others.  Stella practiced nursing in both Lafayette, Louisiana and Houston, Texas.  She had a long and fulfilling nursing career in Labor & Delivery at Memorial Hermann Southwest.    The final years of her nursing career she worked as a Hospice nurse with several Houston hospices caring for those in the twilight of their lives.  She considered nursing both in Labor & Delivery and Hospice an honor and privilege, whether helping lives enter or leave this world – both she believed were holy ground.

Although Stella had no children of her own, she loved children of all ages and her greatest joy was being “Aunt Stel”.    She also held a special place in her heart for those with special needs.  For several years, she enjoyed volunteering in the Special Treasures Sunday School class at Tallowood Baptist Church – a class for children with special needs.  Her joy in loving and caring for each child in this class was extraordinary.

Stella adored animals, and her pets were an enjoyable part of her life.  Anyone who knew her, knew all about her beloved dogs and cats through the years.   She was passionate about Pet Therapy and often enjoyed taking her beagles Bonnie and Rosie to visit her hospice patients.

Stella loved people and was blessed throughout her lifetime with wonderful friends, whom our family will always be thankful for.  A very special thank you to Stella’s lifelong best friend Carol Brown, who is our family’s own “Louisiana angel.”  God smiled on our family the day Stella and Carol met at the beginning of their nursing careers almost 50 years ago where their friendship first began.  Carol has been an extraordinary friend to Stella and all our family, and through Carol we have seen firsthand the true meaning of lifelong friendship.  Special thanks also to Stella’s longtime friend Gladi Hartman for her devoted friendship and faithful visits to Stella.   Thank you also to Director Simetah (Sam) Williams along with the other dedicated staff of Brookdale Senior Living – Memory Care, who took excellent care of Stella and loved her as their own.

All who knew Stella were blessed with her kindness, sweet smile, twinkle in her eye, and the joy she found in serving the Lord.   We will miss her, but we will cherish our memories with her and all she meant to us and taught us.  We take comfort in knowing Stella is at last completely healed and in Heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and reunited with precious family and friends who are rejoicing in the reunion.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a memorial donation be made in Stella’s name to the Tallowood Special Treasures Sunday School Class of Tallowood Baptist Church, the Alzheimer’s Association at, or your favorite charity.

A celebration of Stella’s life will be held on Saturday, December 9th at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood, Houston, Texas 77024.
