I met John briefly on a trip to Texas with his daughter, my good friend, Catherine. I remember distinctly entering his house, his friendly greeting, and at the same time he seemed to be gauging my character. Within moments, after passing his test, he opened up and let me into his wonderful world. I remember bookcases, walls, (a staircase I think I recall) of memorabilia of a life filled with action, and excitement, and family. His genuine smile, then getting back to what he was doing at the time, cleaning his gun if memory serves me correctly. I remember feeling sad when leaving, as though there were much more that I wanted to learn from Mr. Powers, secrets to unveil. The visit and a brief lunch that the three of us had together, even years later, seemed too short. I am saddened now to know that I will never again have that chance, but the memory, well, that is a small permanent piece of who I am now.

Catherine, I know that this man, your dad, was the most important man in your life. He was blessed to have you there, and I only hope that one day I have a daughter as wonderful as you. You are a dear friend and I am sorry for your and your family’s loss.

I consider myself blessed to have known Mr. Powers. He had such a positive energy and knew how to get a smile out of you. He was a lover of life, a fighter for life. I'm saddened to know he is no longer with us, but he lives in our hearts and in all the good memories he left behind. Mr. Powers was a kind, compassionate man. He always got a conversation started that is for sure! : ) And he always seemed to know his subjects! I loved him very much and will truly miss him.

MY DAD
Is My Example

There are many examples to follow in life,
many men who are deserving of praise.
Whether doctors, or lawyers, or soldiers of war-
they've given in so many ways.

But of all the men who've accomplished it all-
of all the great leaders we've had-
not one will ever begin to compare
with the example I've had in my dad.
He's taught me his values,
he's raised me with love,
he's always shown me his respect;
and though his name may never appear in bright lights,
he's one man you'd never forget.
My dad is my leader, my pattern for life,
and on him I can surely depend.
For I know he will be there with arms open wide
to be my example-my friend.

I, too, had the opportunity to meet this wonderful man when I went to visit Catherine in Texas. I'll never forget the look of joy in his eyes every time his 3-month-old granddaughter smiled. John will be missed by many. My thoughts are with you.

I remember meeting "Mr. John" when I was only five. I was immediately drawn in by his friendliness and good humor. I remember running home to tell my Mom that I had a new play friend. Throughout my entire childhood, I was around John, Ka-tee, and Gi--all of which had a profound impact on my development and life. Its with sadness that I hear about John passing. I will and have always had very fond memories of him. Ka

I met John in 1996 when I bought a boat and two motors from him and we became friends. Over the years we visited and traded things and I still have all that I receved from him and always will. He also passed to me his good humor and friendship. I regret that I moved eight years ago from Houston and could not continue our visits that I remember so well. Farewell to a special person and friend and hope we meet again.

John,
You have embarked on a new adventure,a new chapter in the book of eternety. You now know that life does go on, only the physical/soul format is different. I pray that you are discovering the truest meaning of peace and divine love. (something that we, in the physical plane, have forgotten how to comprehend). As soon as you have "settled in" I have a favor to ask:Please check in on all of your family and touch their heart with your love and help them to renew their zest for living. Also, please, give them a kiss on the cheek to let them know you are there!!!

I am sorry to read of your loss. Many have experienced the death of a loved one. In God's word the Bible, it speaks of a resurrection on earth at John 5:28,29-Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.
