Zaher Yousif Mamar, born and raised in Kirkuk, Iraq, was born on September 7, 1946, to the late Yousif Dawood Mamar, and the late Mary Shayaa. Zaher passed away at his home in Houston, Texas at the age of 78 years old on September 11, 2024. He passed away peacefully with his wife by his side.
As a child, Zaher enjoyed swimming at the swimming clubhouse in Kirkuk, he would spend all his summer breaks all day long with his brothers in the pool till it was dinner time. He also enjoyed attending church with his family growing up.
Zaher attended elementary, middle and high school in Kirkuk, then he travelled to the U.K to obtain his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He then
Zaher worked in the oil and gas industry in Kirkuk, Iraq in 1974. He then transferred to Baghdad, Iraq and worked his way up to being the Director of Logistics-Pipelines till he retired in 2009.
Later after retirement Zaher moved his wife and daughter to Jordan, where they spent 2 and half years prior to traveling and settling down in Houston, Texas.
Zaher was known for his generosity and thoughtfulness, and his willingness to share and give all he has for those who are in need, even at the expense of self-sacrifice. He was always the most peaceful, considered, religious, truthful loving person. Zaher always prayed for those around him and blessed them in any way he could. Zaher was always very dependable to those who are close to him, he never liked letting his loved ones down and worked hard to satisfy and provide for his family.
Zaher leaves behind a wife of 39 years: Suha Anayee; a daughter, Maryam Al Mimar and her Husband Reggie Johnson; and his grandson, Brock Johnson. Four siblings: Khalid Mamar, Salwa Mamar, Raad Mamar and Silvana Mamar. He also leaves behind many nephews and nieces.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024 in the Chapel of Beresford Funeral Service from 10 AM to 12 noon. Burial will follow at Houston Memorial Gardens (2426 Cullen Blvd., Pearland, TX 77581) at 1 PM.
