Carolyn “Kat” Elizabeth Michalek Norwood of Sugar Land, Texas died peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the age of 73.
On October 1, 1942, Carolyn was born to Carl “Mike” and Ina “Betty” Michalek in Houston, Texas. She felt blessed to be called Jimmy Michalek’s little sister. She grew up in Houston and graduated from Marian Christian High School in Bellaire, Texas.
Carolyn had a big heart and great love for children. She spent many years caring for them at her in-home daycare. Many of her grandchildren also stayed at her daycare and have memories of her taking them to the Houston Zoo to ride the train, feed ducks at the park and playing in her living room with an abundance of toys. Being able to
help care for children brought her tremendous joy. Additionally, her love extended to animals as well. There wasn’t a dog she passed that didn’t bring a smile to her face. Over the years, she adopted many puppies to support the ASPCA in Houston.
On August 16, 1996, Carolyn met the love of her life William “Butch” Norwood who always called her his “Kitty Kat.” The two married on September 2, 2000. They loved to go on weekend adventures and went to the Blue Bell Creamery more than most. Kat and Butch had a bucket list together and planned to still be checking things off at 108 years old.
She is survived by her husband, Butch Norwood. Her four children, Michael Kliebert and wife Kela, Michelle Black and husband Phil, Paul Kliebert and wife Lisa, and Karin Medart and husband Mitch. She was proud to say that she had 14 grandchildren including Phillip Black, Jeremy Smith, Reine Laib, Suzannah Smith, Cody Smith, Connor Black, John-Paul Kliebert, Faith Medart, Cameron Kliebert, Brian Wilson, Hunter Wilson, Chandler Wilson, Lacy Wilson, Kristen Leinhart and her 3 great grandchildren Valerie Smith, Madelyn Smith, and Myles Leinhart and her brother Jim Michalek, Sr. and wife Mary.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mike and Betty Michalek.
