Beloved grandmother, mother, daughter, sister and friend
Giai Gia was born in Saigon, Vietnam on September 25, 1950. She was the oldest of four children born to parents Quoi Tran and Du Lan Bang. She was a feisty and determined woman who lost her battle with cancer on April 30, 2016. She is preceded in death by her father, Du Lan Bang. She leaves behind her two loving sons Hung Ly and Vi Ly, along with their respective spouses Cindy Ly and Mickey Ly. She loved her grandchildren dearly, Corrinne, Michaela, Samuel and Madison.
Giai Gia immigrated to the United States in 1980 along with her husband Quan Ly and their sons. She set three goals for herself: to learn English, become a U.S. Citizen, and own her own business. She accomplished all three goals. She learned English and continued to love learning new words and phrases. She was naturalized as a U.S. Citizen on September 3, 1986. She owned a small business in Galveston for many years before Hurricane Ike forced her to close.
Giai Gia will be missed by her family and friends. Please join the family at Beresford Funeral Home on Saturday, May 7th. The viewing is from 10-11 AM, with the service immediately following at 11AM. There is limited parking available so please carpool if possible.
