James (Jim) A. Barrackman Sr. 92, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully January 30, 2022.
He was born July 5, 1929 in Humboldt, Kansas to Albin Sam Barrackman and Ruth Marie (Riley) Barrackman.
James graduated from Topeka High School, Topeka, KS in 1948 and went to Washburn University for 2 years before joining the Air Force in 1950. He was stationed at several U.S. bases before going to serve in South Korea where he worked on airplanes during the Korean War. After 4 years, he returned to Topeka, KS where he started his career in Sales. He met Nancy J. Peterson at church and they were married August 5, 1960. They later moved to Corpus Christi, TX where their daughter, Susan was born. Several years later, they moved to Mc Allen, TX where their son, James Jr. was born. Shortly after that, they moved to Houston, TX.
James was outgoing and friendly which was ideal for a career in Sales. Most of his career, he sold various power equipment and construction machinery.
James liked to work with his hands- fixing things, repairing cars, machinery and repurposing things. He was definitely an original DIYer before that became a thing. He enjoyed being outside doing yardwork and camping. He was in Boy Scouts as a young boy and became a Boy Scout leader when James Jr. was in Boy Scouts. He enjoyed watching Kansas and Texas football. His Christian faith was very important to him. He was a member of Fair Haven UMC for years before he and Nancy joined Chapelwood United Methodist Church. They enjoyed singing in the church choir. Nancy passed away in 1994. James met Jerryann O’Brien in the Chapelwood Chancel Choir and they married April 27, 2002. They enjoyed retirement together traveling and taking care of their fur babies. They took a month-long cruise in Europe. They loved singing in the choir. Family was important to James and he will be greatly missed by his family.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jerryann (Kelley) Barrackman; daughter Susan J. Riegler and husband Steve of Austin, TX; son James (Jim) A. Barrackman, Jr. and wife Karin of Houston, TX; stepson Larry S. Fox; 6 grandchildren: Kathryn Rogers (Tyler), Tyler Chavarria (Ariana), Luke Hagar (Angela Parke), Lianne Barrackman, Mason Barrackman, Lauren Riegler and 3 great grandchildren: Quentin Parke, Carsun Moore, and Madeleine Race.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Nancy J. (Peterson) Barrackman, granddaughter Shelby L. Barrackman, stepson Glenn A. Fox, brother Charles W. Barrackman and his parents.
The family has decided on a private graveside service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
A Memorial Service will be held on February 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapelwood United Methodist Church in the Chapel, 11140 Greenbay Street Houston, TX 77024. Officiated by Dr. Wick Stuckey.
If you would like to honor James, you can make a donation to the Air Force Aide Society.
