In Memory of
Kinh Thanh Nguyen
-

Kinh Thanh Nguyen was 72 years old, son to Giáp Pham and Ha Nguyen in the province of Binh Thuan, Vietnam. He was the youngest of 8 children, four boys and four girls. His parents later moved the family to the city of Quang Tri, Vietnam, where they earned a living as rice farmers. A few short years after he was born the war in Vietnam erupted in 1955. His family’s small city located in the narrowest portion of Central Vietnam became the most heavily war impacted province in all of Vietnam. As Kinh grew older, he became a Soldier for many years for the South Vietnamese Army that fought alongside the American Army against the North Vietnamese.

He eventually fled Vietnam in May 1975, via an American ship after the fall of Saigon. He came to the United States through Quam and ended up at Fort Chafe, Arkansas. His American journey brought him to a small town in Strandburg, South Dakota. He began working at a nursing home in Milbank, South Dakota, where he met his future wife, Jane Bakken. Kinh and Jane later married in 1976 and had five children. He was a proud father who always loved, mentored, and cherished his family.

Kinh was a student of learning and earned a master's degree in Electrical Engineering. He began working as a machinist and later started his own business building hydraulic power units. He later retired and moved to Houston, where he lived for many years helping many of his neighbors and immigrants from Vietnam.

Kinh passed away due to complications of health. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Kinh managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his children, who he adored more than anything else in the world.

Kinh is survived by his children, Lan, Lien, Nam, Ky, and Thuy; grandchildren Hayden, Julian, Jett, Jerome, Colby, and Caylin.

Services will be held in the Chapel of Beresford Funeral Service on Thursday, March 17, 2022.  The visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM and the funeral will start at 11 AM.  Burial will follow at Carmen Nelson Bostick Historic Cemetery (12317 Holderrieth Rd, Houston, TX 77375).

Lien,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I read the short biography of your dad's life, and it was amazing to me. I hope that you have very many happy memories to rely on now as you grieve and heal. With great love comes great sorrow. I wish you peace.
sincerely,
Carolyn Lopez
