In Memory of
Melinda Lockett Leon "Mindy"
-

MELINDA “MINDY” LOCKETT LEON (1952 – 2015), 62, passed away peacefully January 15, due to complications of Multiple Sclerosis. Born in Houston on December 11, 1952, and a ’71 grad of Westbury High School, Mindy cherished her younger surfing years in Surfside and Port Isabel, TX, and along the Mexican Pacific. She used her sense of humor and her love of family to fight her daily battles against Multiple Sclerosis.

Mindy is survived by her daughters, Corey Leon and Jerrica Leon, and her grandsons Philip Harris and Julian Diaz, all of Ft. Myers, FL; also survived by her siblings Max Lockett (WY), John (Patsy) Lockett (College Station), Louisa (Jerry) Burk (Houston), Mary (Paul) Barr (Houston), and Peter (Cathie) Lockett (College Station), aunt, cousins and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Gordon Lockett.

Special thanks to Mindy’s dear friend Ms. Dollie Woodard for her love, care and laughter to Mindy over the past few years. The family also wishes to thank the staff at Legend Oaks Healthcare Northwest.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 10am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 10135 West Rd, Ph 281-955-7324.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Lone Star Chapter, Legend Oaks Northwest (Pavilion Fund) 8902 West Rd, Houston, TX 77064, or to a charity of your choice.

Mindy was most happy with the sun on her shoulders while collecting shells on the beach.

You have been here all of my life, as far back as I can remember. You were a large part of my world, remembering our gatherings at Granny and Granddaddy's house on Bell St, playing in the backyard and swimming in the driveway in Grandaddy's blow up kiddy pool. Summers at the Hughes Tool Club, learning to swim and running down the hill toward the river. And later in New Braunsfel, when you tried to use the rope swing and came up short on the side of the river, you never quit, you always tried, and you lived! I love you Cuz, and will miss you, but am glad that you are finally free. God bless you.

Lockett,my friend forever since we were 13....you are probably surfing somewhere loving the sun in your bikini. We had so much fun and shared so much together, I am me because of you! I always told you that you were the wings beneath my wings and I will think that always. You are gone but will always be in my heart. Thanks for keeping my secrets and always listening to me. Love you and miss you! Green

Oh, the memories I have! You were one of the first friends I made at Fondren when we all got moved into that new school. We had so many fun times, got into a lot of trouble but all harmless. A perfect afternoon was coming to your house and getting lucky that your mom was making tacos and cruising around just being carefree teenagers. And then there was the beach! Not always good for my redhead skin but worth every minute of fun. I know you are up there smiling down and finally free from the ravages of MS. Love you and see you on the flip side!

Mindy: I'm so glad that I visited you last year when Max was in town. I'm so glad you are at peace and whole again in mind, body & spirit. I've known you since I was 15 & we had some fun times. I always enjoyed the Maplewood Pool summers with our "special" beverages. Love you & I know with God's good grace I will see you again.

It was my honor and privilege to bring Holy Communion to Mindy once a month. We had many wonderful visits---she was truly an inspiration. She always smiled when she saw us come into the room. She loved the Communion service and we did it slowly so she could participate as much as possible. We will miss her. May God's peace be in your hearts and may your thoughts be filled with good memories. Rest in peace, Mindy.

I remember how Mindy, Leo Jr. & Elaine hung out and partied together. The pyramid of Marlboro red empty cig boxes on her wall (I guess they were empty) and what a happy, free sprit, and genuine beautiful person she was. Rest in peace Mindy, you brought a special light to this world.
