Sharon Speer Rankin was born in Paducah, Texas January 24, 1936 to James M. Speer and Nina M. Couch Speer.
Sharon grew up with her family in several towns in west Texas. She attended Lubbock High School and the University of Texas (Austin). She married Thomas E. Rankin in March 1956. Sharon and Tom moved to east Texas in 1957 where Tom began work in the oil industry as a Petroleum Engineer.
Sharon accompanied Tom during his professional assignments worldwide establishing 13 residences for the family in four countries. She traveled extensively both domestic and foreign.
Sharon served a term as President of the Houston Chapter of the SPE Auxiliary and was elected a Life Time Member in the SPE Auxiliary. She was active in several activities in Harris County including politics.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Rankin, their daughter Tyra Kay Rankin of Austin, Texas, their son Jack Gilbert Rankin and wife Norm Jean Rankin of Plano, Texas and their daughters Alicia Bell in Frisco, Texas and Laura Rankin in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Sharon died October 26, 2019 at the age of 83 in Houston Hospice Inpatient Facility.
A Viewing and Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 4, 2019 at 10 AM and 12 noon respectively in the Sanctuary of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church located at 20775 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, TX with graveside service following at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

I met Sharon while working with her husand Tom at Amoco. Sharon was one of these people that I just could not help but like. Sharon had an infectious smile and laugh. Sharon and her husband, Tom, were an absolute delight to be around. Always spreading joy and spreading warmth of heart where they went.
Sharon, You were always such a cool aunt. I always looked up to you, and wanted to be like you. You made such an impression on my heart.

I am thankful to call Sharon my aunt. She was thoughtful, had a fun laugh, and always wore her large sunglasses. I so regret not having time with you these last 30 years. Uncle Tom, Tyra, Jack and Norma, my sympathy and love is with you.

Sharon was my second Mother when I was in my teens. I always knew she would be there for me, if/when I needed her. I am so sorry she is gone and wish Tom, Tyra, and Jack my deepest condolences.
