Barbara Jo Dickie, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed from this earthly life on December 23rd, 2013. She was surrounded by her children as she moved to her glorious home of streets paved with gold. Barbara was born Barbara Jo Gunn on November 17, 1938 to Ammon Loveal Gunn and Aline (White) Gunn in Brownwood, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents Leville and Aline (White) Gunn, her sister Mary (Gunn) Locker, and her husband W.L. Dickie. Barbara’s last home was in Houston, Texas.
Barbara is survived by her children and their families: Bobby Chism and wife Pam, step-children Nikki and Robert Hanley and Megan and Cody Velkovich; Steve and Sheree Chism, Steve's daughter Cheri Chism and her son Dylan; Sherri Gregory and husband George, Sherri's son Charlie (Naff), his wife Rae Ann and their precious little girl Lexi, and Sherri's daughter Angela (Naff) Meredith, and husband Jake Meredith.
Barbara regularly attended Copperfield Church where she was baptized and became involved in the senior women's bible study. At Copperfield Church she made many friends and every Sunday had a hug and smile for everyone in her path. Through her church acquaintance she became employed to care for children and friends and through her loving nature became an extended member of their families. Among Barbara's favorites in life was Elvis Presley music, elephant figurines, dolls, and her cat Princess, who now has a new home. She enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, and was also active at her senior apartment complex, making many friends at their events, as well as organizing a Wii bowling league. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, January 4th at 3:00 p.m. at Copperfield Church located at 8350 Highway 6 North, Houston, TX 77095. Following the service we will have a time of visiting, sharing memories, and enjoying food graciously prepared by various church groups and friends.
