In Memory of
Hiram Calvin "Mutt" Bettis
-

Mutt, age 85, went to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, November 26, 2013. He was born in Roby, TX to Hiram and Grace Bettis. He is survived by his daughter, Linda, son-in-law, George, and granddaughter, Lindsay. He is preceded in death by his wife, Nan.

He served in the U.S. Army, was a proud Texas Tech Alum and retired from a long career in the Oil & Gas Industry. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, Mutt will be dearly missed. He was a kind and giving man; those that knew him were truly blessed.

Mutt missed his wife, Nan, very much, who passed on October 24th, 2013. They are now dancing together in Heaven.

I shouldn't have been surprised and shocked that Mutt wanted to be with Nan AND so (too) soon. They were inseparable, they had the love of our Lord between them, so very great; the kind of love that we all pray for. They are dancing together with the angels right now! Another great loss to us on earth. I loved to e-mail Mutt many times per week, sometimes we commented on the subject of an e-mail which was when his dry sense of humor would seep through cyber space. I so enjoyed "talking" to him. What a precious man he was, his family have been blessed for all these years. Nan was blessed to have him at her side too. Again, they had a love that all of us pray for. I rejoice that they will be with our Lord Jesus and each other in eternity.

I wrote this for my Dad in 1980. I am not the best poet but the words came from my heart.

Dad, You are a very loving and caring man
Know that I'll always be your biggest fan
Because you cared for me as much as you did
I actually turned out to be a pretty good kid

You've come to my rescue when money was tight
Made me feel better when nothing seem right
You taught me honesty and the right paths to take
It helped when I had all those big choices to make.

I'll always love you and think you are supreme
You've been the answer to this daughter's dream
I want you to know that I am so very glad
I'm the one that gets to call you my Dad.

THE GREATEST GIFT I EVEN HAD, CAME FROM GOD
I CALLED HIM DAD. NOW YOU ARE WITH MOM AND
YOU WILL BE ANGELS TO WATCH OVER US. DAD,I KNOW YOU
ARE TAKING CARE OF MOM. I LOVE AND MISS YOU BOTH
SO VERY MUCH.

Linda, George and Lindsay,
Our sincere sympathy to you on the sudden loss of your father and grandfather. I am so glad that I had the pleasure of knowing Mutt, a patriot, a devoted husband, a blessed father, a loving grandfather, and a loyal friend. Mutt and I shared a common bond in that when we both married we not only received the love of our life but also a beautiful young girl to raise that we could proudly call our daughter. Nan and Mutt obviously were wonderful parents to Linda as she is such a precious and loving person. It is comforting for all to know that Mutt is together forever with his beloved Nan. A life well lived. Rest in peace, Mutt.
