In Memory of
Leo Reginald Akers
-

Leo Reginald Akers, 80, of Houston, Texas passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013 after a long battle with Adenocarcinoma.

He was born March 15, 1933 to Leo David Akers and Cecile Miller of White Mills, Kentucky. He was a retired U.S. Navy Veteran and while proudly serving his country in the Korean War, he also began a life long passion with mechanics born in the engine room of a naval vessel. Leo went on to become a master technician and team leader for new car dealerships across the country. Not only did he master his trade but also passed his legacy down to his sons.

Reginald (as he was known back home) was a hometown hero and loved by many for leading his high school basketball team, the Lynnvale Warriors, to multiple state championships.

He is survived by his children: Paul R. Akers, Deitra M. Kavanaugh and Charles D. Akers; his grandchildren: Cassie Wright, Logan Kavanaugh, Rachel Akers, and Courtney Akers; and his great grandchildren: Chloe Wright, Cammie Wright, and Audrie Akers. He also leaves behind to cherish his memories: his sisters, Mary Cathrine McCray, and Norma Jent; his brothers, Carlos and Eddie; numerous nephews, nieces, other family members; and a host of longtime friends all from his hometown of Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Joyce Pearman and Linda Vessels.

The most cherished memory I have of my Dad was when I was just turning 9. My mom asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I said I want my dad all to myself for 1 day. So he took me to dinner, and he took me shopping. I still remember the red and white checkered top and bellbottoms he bought me. Dad's have no idea what they can mean in the life of their little girl. Love you Daddy!
