In Memory of
Georgia Estrella Gancedo Diaz
-

Georgia Estrella Gancedo Diaz known to most as Chiche was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba on February 15, 1932 to Manuel Gancedo and Francisca Morejon Gancedo, passed away peacefully in Houston, TX on May 16, 2025 at the age of 93 years and 3 months.

Chiche and Pipo made the brave decision to immigrate to the USA in 1964, along with their two kids and Nina, Chiche’s sister.  The family landed in Miami, FL February 12, 1964 and were greeted by younger sister Cuca.  For the next 13yrs they lived in Hialeah, FL and 1977 the entire extended family moved to Houston, TX.

Chiche was the eldest of 3 girls, Nina middle sister with Cuca the youngest, they both preceded her in death.  Pio Evelio (Pipo), her husband, Andres, her brother-in-law, and Maribel her niece, also preceded her in death.  Not to forget her much loved Cheri, Daisy (dogs) and Adjo (cat).

Surviving Chiche are; her children Estrella and Evelio, their spouses Fred and Elena, her grandsons Evan and Roberto, their spouses Maria and Linden, great-grandsons, Roberto, Daniel, Christopher, and David.  As well as her beloved nephews and nieces, she cared for most of them while her sisters worked.  Narciso, her brother-in-law that would faithfully visit her every day at lunch.

Known as a master chef of all Cuban delicacies, but unfortunately, she never wrote down her recipes; her cooking method a pinch of this a dash of that and taste!  Cousin Marilu decided to ask Chiche how she measured the spices, you just do a pinch of this and a dash of that, and taste!

Chiche spent her last three years at Copperfield Nursing Home where she was cared for by wonderful CNAs and nurses, and her personal caregiver Mei. She never stayed in her room, she would go out to the hallway with her babies (dolls) in the middle of all the activity and although she did not speak English, everyone knew what she wanted!

Chiche was the boss of the family, while Pipo was the enforcer, they made quite the couple and their home was always open to all.

Even though Dementia was robbing her of her words, she still had passion and conveyed her feelings, her facial expressions were well known!  We will miss her, we were blessed to have her in our lives and she will always be in our hearts.
