Grace Ann (Sciortino) Palermo, 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
Grace was born on September 29, 1938, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. She grew up in Houston attending Annunciation Catholic School and graduated from Incarnate Word Academy High School in 1956.
On June 16, 1957, Nick and Grace were married at Annunciation Catholic Church. From that moment on her passion was her family. Her devotion and love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was evident at all times. She lived in service to all those around her, sacrificed without seeking recognition, and loved unconditionally. She was the very definition of her name.
She persevered through many challenges during her life beginning with the death of her mother at the age of 13 and caring for her younger brother whom she loved and cherished, suffering a stroke later in life, and so much in between, including the death of her beloved brother. She moved through these challenges quietly and with grace.
Galatians 5:22-23 list the fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Grace embodied this. Her life was a testimony of her faith.
Grace is survived by her husband Nicholas Palermo, her sisters-in-law Marilyn Grizzaffi (Frank) and Bernadine Sciortino; her six children Daniel Palermo (Janna), Teresa Palermo, Lucille Sanchez, Joseph Palermo (Sherry), Mary Riggs (Cole), and Nicholas Jr., and her 12 grandchildren, Mikah Macaluso (Evin), Jenna Grenier (Brandon), Jayme Doyle, Kenneth Sanchez, Charles Sanchez (Jennifer), Nichole Sanchez (Zach), Joseph Palermo, Chase Riggs (Alexandra), Christopher Riggs (Kendall), Caylie Towery (Hunter), Dominic Palermo, and Lauryn Palermo (Zorin); and 12 great-grandchildren with another due later this month.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lucille Sciortino, brother Joseph Sciortino, and son-in-law Charles Sanchez.
Special thanks and appreciation to Grace’s dedicated and loving nurse, Penny Davis; and all the staff at Blue Star Hospice.
