In Memory of
James Robert Sturdevant
-

James Robert "Bob" Sturdevant passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the age of 70. He was called away peacefully surrounded by family after a long fight with multiple ailments.

Bob was a fun loving, kind, and generous man. He worked hard, played hard, and loved and cared deeply. Many knew him as "Uncle Bob", because even if he wasn't your uncle, his kind, caring, and fun spirit made him feel like family to many.

Born in Dallas, TX on June 25, 1945, Bob moved to Houston with his parents and brothers during his childhood. He graduated from Bellaire High School in 1963 and afterwards attended Southwestern University. After his stay at Southwestern he moved back to Houston and remained living in the Houston area for all his life.

After returning to Houston, Bob got into the specialty coating business at Houston Coating Enterprises and later joined the team at Gartner Coatings. He enjoyed working with his customers and was very knowledgeable in his field.

Rodeo time was Bob's favorite time of year. He was a Lifetime Committeeman at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where he served on the Parade Committee for 43 years. HLSR was a big part of his life, and it gave him a place to be involved, have fun, and spend time with friends, family, and customers. And the barbeque. Can't talk about Bob's life without talking about barbeque. Beans, brisket, ribs, and turkeys and hams for the holidays. He cooked them all and he cooked them well. Many great times were had around a barbeque pit.

The Executive Hunting Club also gave Bob a place to enjoy good times with friends on hunting and golf trips, and the hunting club beach house was a place where many fond memories were made.

He is survived by his brothers Tom and Mike; children, John, Rick, Stephen, and Sheri; and his grandchildren Kayla, Hadley, Darian, Landon, Avery, and Scarlet.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Sturdevant, and his brother John Sturdevant Jr.

A visitation will be on Friday, March 11th at 1 PM in the Chapel of Beresford Funeral Service, followed by the burial at 3:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 17th at 5pm at Bethany United Methodist Church (3511 Linkwood Dr., Houston, TX 77025).

Please know how much all of you mean to me. It is hard to believe how you have grown. You were loved very much by your precious Daddy. Now it is your turn to stay close to one another and know HE is still watching over all of us!

God bless each of you. You are special to me and in my prayers. I will miss him too!!

What is a friend? Someone who is always ready to listen, whether there is a problem, a function to attend, or just be there to laugh together, planning how the world can be better or just sitting on a deck, eating peanuts, and listening to the "ball games!" Yep! those are great memories.

May God bless you each day in a special way.

Love to you all, Pat, Skooter, the dog and Brat, the cat.
