In Memory of
Joann Hoelscher Evans
-

Joann Hoelscher Evans, born August 11, 1955, in Houston, Texas to Walter and Charlotte Hoelscher passed into JESUS’ presence Thursday June 26, 2025, in her sleep in Katy, Texas.

Joann was preceded in death by her father Walter Eugene Hoelscher who served in World War 2 as a Navy Seabee who survived combat on the island campaigns of Saipan and Tinian. Her mother Charlotte Beatrice Shults Hoelscher a Veteran’s Administration nurse also preceded her in death.  Additionally, her big brother PFC John Michael Hoelscher served as a Rifleman in the Marine Corps and was killed in action in the Republic of Vietnam.

She is survived by her husband of 47 and a half years Kyle Wayne Evans, her daughter Tracy Lynn Garrison and husband Daniel also, Rachel Jane Harpster and her husband Bryan. Tracy and Daniel blessed Joann and Kyle with three amazing grandsons David Nathaniel Garrison, Kevin Michael Garrison and Matthew Keith Garrison that lovingly call her “OMA”.

Joann’s beloved sisters Mary Bridget Domann, Elizabeth Ann Edwards and husband Frank and her twin sister Janie Wood and her husband Bill survive her.

Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.  She was blessed to have her Mount Carmel school friends in her life Debbie Schwarz, Joan Ownbey and Patti Osborne.

Joann Evans was a member of The Gathering Church in Richmond Texas where she was known for her sweet upbeat and positive outlook.  Many times, people asked Joann how she maintained such a positive outlook to which she would reply “my father taught me to choose happiness and joy every day”.  Anyone that knew her for more than a minute was captivated by her presence and smile.  This trait has caused her to positively impact and be loved by dozens of people as she navigated life.

Joann said she met Kyle when she was about 21 and they had many adventures and life experiences.  She told people all the way to the end that Kyle was a special gift that GOD had sent her (Kyle feels the same way).  I rode horses, installed Christmas lighting on a 130-foot tower crane at a construction site, SCUBA diver, water skied, and snow skied and sailed.  She said she was also an accomplished shooter.  My work experience was varied from working in an ICU at St. Lukes to managing a major retail store.  I also managed a flight school and aviation repair station.  My greatest accomplishment came with the title of HAUSFRAU caring for Tracy and Rachel and raising them and volunteering at their schools.  Kyle points to Joann’s Godly example and both say the proudest moment was witnessing each girl accept Jesus Christ as savior and grandson David being confirmed in the Church.  Generally, Joann was easy-going and fun to be around because of her boisterous nature.  When needed she would stand toe to toe against evil and as a fierce defender of others.

Of the many things Joann loved to do, preparing wreaths to be laid at the graves of friends and family was very dear to her.  This was every Veterans Day and Before Christmas.
