Lauryn Kay Mock (Nettles), beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2016, in Katy, Texas, after a fierce twenty-month fight with pancreatic cancer.
She was born on November 17th, 1962, in Meridian, Mississippi. Lauryn graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in 1980. She then attended Wharton Junior College for her license as a vocational nurse before completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Texas Tech University and University of Alaska Anchorage in 1993. She married Jon Mock on September 14th, 1985, in Rosenberg, Texas, after a whirlwind six-month courtship. She was a member of Sigma
Theta Tau, the honor society for nurses, and later found her spiritual life in the fellowship of good friends.
She loved shopping, crocheting, fishing, cooking, high heels, and the beach, but she especially loved traveling. Over the course of her life she lived in Texas, Wyoming, Alaska, Dubai, and Kuala Lumpur, and in addition visited Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Martinique, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden, Greece, Oman, India, Nepal, Myanmar, the People’s Republic of China, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Australia. In the process, she learned to cook Malaysian, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and various other cuisines.
Lauryn is survived by her husband Jon Mock; her children Meridith (Mario) and Kyle; her sister Jennifer (Dan) and brother Adam; her niece Heather; and various relatives, as well as Sunshine, her Shetland Sheepdog, and Maddie, her Golden Retriever, whom she loved dearly and who loved her just as much.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 17th, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, at Beresford Funeral Service, 13501 Alief Clodine Road, Houston, Texas, with a service held after.
