Mary Louise Collins Skinner of Houston, passed into the loving hands of the Lord on Thursday, January 19, 2017, with her children by her side. She was 89. After marrying the love of her life, Dave Skinner in Liberty, Texas, the newlyweds moved to the Houston area, where they raised their five children.
Dave and Mary enjoyed 55 years of wedded bliss before Dave passed away in 2000 after a brave battle with cancer.
Mary loved sports and was for decades an avid Houston Astros fan. She actively participated in Little League baseball programs and coached girls’ softball for many years. Mary was a talented painter — several of her pieces remain with family members who deeply cherish these works of art.
Fish didn’t stand a chance with Mary around. A lifelong fisherman, often the best place to find Mary was on a fishing dock, where she’d cheerfully fill her basket with Crappie.
But Mary’s greatest joy came from being together with all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. It was amazing to always watch the small children gravitate to her to feel her loving embrace.
She had many interesting stories to tell about the Great Depression and her childhood in the oilfields around Liberty. Mary had an unbelievable sense of humor, strong faith, and was proud to be the family matriarch. Her family and friends will greatly miss her, but know that she is at peace and will welcome them with open arms when it’s their time. We love you, Mary.
