Dear Neil and the rest of Shirley's family,

We are so sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. Both of you (Neil and Shirley) were our wonderful neighbors across the street while you lived on Trail Ridge in El Paso, Texas. Shirley always had a sweet spirit and was a joy to talk to. I remember when we were taking care of the kitten belonging to the neighbors from Germany next to our house and when we needed a place for the kitten to stay until the neighbors returned, Shirley and you took the kitten in. Shirley loved cats!!! She loved the people around her as well. We were blessed with her friendship!! We hope to see her again in eternity!! We know that you miss her. Know that we are thinking of you at this time.

We are very saddened by the loss of Shirley. She was a great lady who seemed full of grace, yet had a strong sense of fun and adventure. Her laugh and humor will be sorely missed. Our deepest sympathies to her family and friends.

I will miss the conversations with my friend Shirley.
You never saw this lady without a smile on her face and
a joke to tell.

Go Astros.

I will miss all the stories and special visits over the past years as we shared together being Jackie's grandmothers. Shirley was a gracious and happy person from the day I met her and we had lots of great times together. She leaves us with a role model to follow, as well as a void in our hearts. I was proud to be her friend.

I never really had the opportunity to get to know Shirley, except for a special occasion or two. But I do know her son, Rob, and seen what a kind and caring man he is. He has been there for me in times of need and I am confident the qualities that he has exhibited to me are a reflection of the way Shirley carried herself. Shirley was loved by many and she will be missed.

I was a fellow student of Shirley's in San Marcos in the mid 40's and early 50's. When I went to my 1946 annual, her picture was missing. I remembered I had cut it out for safe keeping about 60 years ago. She was a very fine person and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

I read Shirley and even though I did not know her, it is obvious she will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved her.

At a time like this we wonder why God allows us to lose a loved one, but we can take comfort in that God himself never causes such a loss. In fact, He wants us to take comfort in the words he had recorded for us in his word the bible where it says, "The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." John 5:28

The opportunity to see Shirley again is not just wishful thinking. God promises us that there will be a resurrection.

Jesus himself said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies will have everlasting life." John 11:25

I hope you will find comfort in the words of God and Jesus in the bible at this most difficult time.

Sincerely,

Kay Lin

Neil, Eddie and I were very sad to hear of Shirley's passing. I know this is very difficult for you as we have both lost a spouse. We are praying for your comfort and peace. Though I did not see Shirley over many years after leaving San Marcos Academy, I have wonderful memories of our high school friendship. Mary Ann Gracey Casey, Shirley and I were close.
