It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Sonia A. Pray, affectionately known as Ms. Sonia, on December 30th, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. Sonia was born on February 16, 1942, in Roatan, Honduras, to Victorine Eden Rodriguez and Robert “Roy” Mclaughlin. She carried with her the rich heritage of her Irish ancestry, from which the Mclaughlin name originates, and it is through this lineage that her family remains deeply connected.
In 1973, Sonia migrated from Honduras to Newton, Massachusetts, where she began a dedicated career as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Elliot Manor Nursing Home. Her compassion and kindness left an indelible mark on those she cared for and worked with.
Sonia's life was filled with vibrant pursuits and cherished pastimes. She was a valued member of The Boston Honduras Club, where she formed lifelong friendships. Her love for gardening was evident in the beautiful spaces she cultivated, and she found great joy in watching Westerns, attending bingo halls, and visiting casinos.
Sonia possessed a remarkable creative spirit, with a flair for design and decoration that transformed the ordinary into the extraordinary. Above all, Sonia's greatest joy was her family. She treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter. Her presence was a source of warmth and strength for her family, and her legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
