In Memory of
David John Escobar
-

David John Escobar, 62, went to be with Our Lord on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 after suffering an embolism. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Janet Escobar, his two daughters, Maria Teresa of Houston and Maria Elena of Dallas, his father and step mom, Bernardo and Delfina Escobar of Katy, his sister, Margie de la Vega and nephew, Joshua de la Vega.

David was born in Havana, Cuba in 1945 and lived there until 1959. He then came to Houston where he spent his remaining years. After finishing high school, he attended the University Of Houston and then began his career as a civil/structural designer. He worked for a number of engineering firms in Houston during his career. David’s two daughters, Maria Teresa and Maria Elena, were born in 1963 and 1964 and were truly the apples of their daddy’s eye.

David and Janet were married in 1980 and spent 26 wonderful years as husband and wife.
David was a person who loved life, his family and his friends deeply. He was known for his jokes and his easy laugh, his smile and his compassion. He never met a stranger and within the hour you felt he was one of your friends because he would know your life history. He was just so open and loving he collected friends in every walk of his life. He will be sorely missed by his wife, his family and friends.

A memorial and celebration of his life will be held on August 27, 2007 at 3 pm and will be at Grace Fellowship United Methodist Church located at 2655 South Mason Road. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lupus Foundation in memory of David and in honor of his daughter Maria T. Escobar.

Charitable Donations may be made to:

My father was the most loving man I've ever known. He made friends wherever he went. We loved him so much and he will be missed. I can't write enough here to express all that I'm feeling right now. I love him and will never stop.

I have no words for my sorrow, loss and pain, but here are ome words I have recently found that come close to expressing what we are feeling as his family:
You were a man with lost of pride
Although you were suffering, you kept it inside
As a father and a husband, you were King
Always there for every little thing
But now, my love,
You must return to God to watch us from above
Just remember, you take with you all our love
I love you my Daddy, forever and eternity,
Maria

David was like a huge oak tree planted on earth by God. Just as an oak planted strong roots so did David. Just as an oak tree offered security and shelter so did David. Just as the oaks branches wrapped it's arms about you so did David. The world has lost a wonderful person. David's memory will always remind us of what the world needs most. A family man, wonderful husband, father, son, brother and for me my friend. I will never forget those arms that always made you feel welcome and loved and the huge laugh, smile and those shining eyes that said how happy he was. You had no choice but to love and respect David. My love thought and prayers are with you

I never had the priviledge of meeting David, but I have had the privilege of knowing his daughter Maria Elena, or Mary Ellen as we know her, for six years now. If her free spirit and ability to light up a room with just her presence are any indication, then her father must have been an amazing man.

We all love you here at your 2nd family Mary Ellen and our hearts and prayers are with you and the entire Escobar family.

I never had the opportunity to meet David, but from the many stories Maria (Mary Ellen) had shared with her co-workers, he sounded amazing!

My heart and prayers go out to Mary Ellen and her family! May you find peace and comfort in knowing all his pain and misery have subsided. Cherish the memories of him and hold them close to your hearts. He may be absent in the physcial prescence, but his spirit lives on in each of you. Never look any further then your own hearts and memories. His love will always shine down on you.

I wish the family much love, peace, and comfort in your time of mourning.

I have heard many stories of David and he seemed to be a wonderful man. I understand the bond of a father to daughter and I can only imagine the pain and sorrow the daughters of David are experiencing. Once again my heart and my prayers will be with the family in this time of need. My heart truly breaks for everyone involved.

I have only had the pleasure of knowing Maria Elena (Mary Ellen) for a little over a year now. She and I worked together at Seals & Packings, Inc. She is the sweetest woman I know and her spirit and personality are so refreshing. She is truly an amazing person. I assume she inherited all those wonderful characteristics and qualities from her father David, based on some of the stories I have heard about him as well.

Mary Ellen, I just want you to know that I am so grateful to know you and I am here for you if you need me. I am deeply saddened about the news of your father, but you are loved and we are all here for you in your time of bereavement as well as any other time.

I had only met David at family reunions several times, but he was the type of person that made you feel as if you'd known him forever. He was the love of Janet's life and my Aunt (Janet's Mom) thought he was just wonderful. The Bible tells us that "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Ps. 116:15. While David will be missed here, his life with our Lord has just begun.

I did not know David Escobar, but I know and work with his daughter Mary Ellen. Jesus said you know who people truly are by the fruit the bear in their life. I know Mary Ellen by the fruit her life bears. It is the kind of fruit I pray for in my own life. Things like goodness, kindness, joy, and gentleness.

In this world they say that "fruit doesn't fall far from the tree", and I believe that is true. So therefore I know that world has lost a truly wonderful and beautiful spirit in the passing of David Escobar.

My prayer is that God will send the peace and confort of his Holy Spirit to Mary Ellen and to all the family and friends of David. Please know my prayers are with you during your time of loss. Love, Mark

MaryEllen has been my best friend for almost 20 years now. I feel like the 3rd daughter David never knew but I know alot about him and all the Escobar family. They are truly a special bunch of people with more love and bigger hearts than all of Texas.
Our family sends all their love and respects to MaryEllen, Maria and Jan. I hope all of your hearts will heal in time and you can soon smile again when you think of your father looking down at you. I know how very proud he was of his daughters.

My sweetest brother,

Where do I begin to express what I am feeling right now. I am at a complete loss. I'm going to miss the way you lit up a room...you were always the life of any gathering. I'm going to miss your 30 minute long messages on my answering machine. I'm going to miss the way you always kept me guessing with your elaborate stories...I think I was finally beginning to detect when you were making things up and when you were telling the truth. You taught me the value of saying I love you to those that you care about...I only wish I could have told you one last time. Unfortunately, due to the cards life dealt us we didn't really have the opporunity to become close until later in life but I am so grateful for the time we had together and the love we shared. You were an amazing person and you will always be close in my heart. Just as you would tell me...you will always be my favorite brother :)

Love your sis,
Margie

My darling husband, I ache for your presence. We shared 28 years together and for that, I thank God. It was my pleasure and honor to be called Mrs. David Escobar. Some people live their entire lives never experiencing the love we shared. I just wasn't expecting it to end so soon.
A friend told me that God just needed another angel. My darling, you were my angel here on earth but I guess God wanted you in Heaven. I will see you again someday. Until then, I pray for God to send me the Holy Spirit of comfort.

Dear Janet,
Our sympathies go to you and your family. My family has known you for over 12 years and have bought and sold over 6 homes from you. You are the best and we would not go to anyone else. Everytime we saw you, every house we bought or sold we knew we would hear about David. Your love for him radiated in your voice and face. As difficult as these times are in your life I know you must remember the many good years that you did share. Let us know if we can do anything to help.

Our prayers are with you,
Rose, Richard and Susan Davis

Janet,

I cannot express the sorrow we feel. We absolutely love having you and David living next door. You have been apart of our extended family and therefore I too mourn David's passing. David had an incredible spirit. He was always so happy and almost "giddy". We enjoyed his company and know that he came through many adversities. The world has lost a true gentlemen and an example for us all in how we should live our lives. With that, this prayer has brought me great comfort in my times of loss recently. I hope that you hold it as dear as we do....

May today there be peace within.
May you trust Got that you are
exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite
possibilities that are born of faith
May you use those gifts that are
received and pass on the love that
has been given to you. May you be
content knowing you are a child of
God. Let this presence settle into
your bones, and allow your soul the
freedom to sing, dance, praise, and
love. It is there for each and every
one of us

-St. Theresa’s Prayer

Please know that we are constantly thinking of you and await when you will call upon our friendship to help you through, as you put it, surviving. We are hear for you and want to help as you have in so many ways.

Love to you - The Cielencki Family

We are so sorry to hear of David's passing. Even though it has been 20 plus years since we met and worked with you we can still remember the happiness you brought to each other. At work he was such a joy to be around. He had the uncanning ability to keep everyone smilling and still be a person of great depth. We are blessed to have known him. Our prayers are with you. We will see you Monday and Mary Ruth, Emilie and I would love to take you to lunch sometimes soon.Love and prayers to you,

David was someone I could count on to make me laugh and brighten my day. We've worked together on and off for more than 10 years and he was a joy to work with. I will miss his laugh, his smile, his stories and his friendship. It breaks my heart to think I won't ever hear from him again. It breaks my heart that Janet and his daughters are now without him. David was an original and I still feel stunned at his loss. God Bless him.

David was one of the kindest, most considerate men I have every known. He was loving and very devoted to his family and his friends. For him it was natural — that's just the way he was and it was an inspiration and joy to everyone who knew him. He gave us all a lot and that will sustain us in his absence. I will miss him, though. A'Dios, David. I love you.

I am not a writer or composer by any means and to write about my son David is difficult because there aren't words beautiful enough to express who he was and what he stood for. The first time anyone would meet him they would fall in love with him. He was an amazing father, son, husband, brother and friend. Just one brief encounter with him would instantly reveal what an incredible man he was. He was as close to perfection as you could get. David was the true definition of a gentleman and I know that he is in heaven making new friends, comforting others and making them see the beauty of life. My son never met a stranger because he made friends with everyone he met and always managed to bring a smile to your face. There aren't enough wonderful things that I can say about him, he was truly one of a kind and will be incredibly missed. I was truly blessed and privileged to have such a wonderful son and the world will never be quite the same again without him.

Te quiero,
Papa

To my cousins Janet, Maria & Mary Ellen: What can I say about my cousin David. David had a lust for life like no other person that I've ever met. He had a lifetime ahead of him and his life was cut so short but the love he left to his family will live on and on. To my cousins Maria & Mary Ellen I say, your father will always be with you. Each of you has a part of him in your hearts that you will carry with you for an eternity and no one can take that away from you. I will never forget our vacations together and the kindness he always showed us, even as children. My most sincerest sympathies to the family and I hope to see you all again one day.
