In Memory of
Lee McDuff
-

Lee Edmon McDuff passed away peacefully on December 22, 2020 surrounded by his devoted wife and family, of whom he was so proud. Lee, the 6th child of Joe E. and Rosa Lee Watson McDuff, was born February 24, 1925 in Ralls, Texas. He graduated from Ralls High School and Texas Tech University Class of 1949 with degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Geology.
Lee had a gift, a way of making the complex look simple. He could fix anything and knew that engineering was a perfect career choice; however, duty called Lee into serving his country in February, 1944 as a 2nd Lt. in the US Army Air Corps flying for the 405 Squadron, 371st Fighter Group. Lee flew many successful missions with “Shadrach”, his trusty P-47, until he was shot down near Koblenz, Germany and held as a POW in Stalag-Luft I prison camp until his liberation in May 1945. His bravery and service to his country earned him a Purple Heart and Bronze Star among other service awards.
Upon returning to Texas, Lee completed college and began a lifelong career as the 7th employee with newly formed Transcontinental Gas and Pipeline until his retirement as Vice President of Corporate Services. While working for Transco in St. Francisville, LA, Lee met the love of his life, Shirley Marie Navarre and they were married on March 25, 1951 in a double ceremony. Lee (known by close friends and family as Mac) and Shirley began their life in Houston after the birth of their first child. As their family grew, so did their love and devotion to each other. Aside from family, Lee had only one other passion and he practiced that at every opportunity as an avid golfer and long-time member of Pine Forest Country Club. Lee brought leadership and generosity to every endeavor, work, service or play throughout his life.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Joe E. and Rosa Lee Watson McDuff, his brothers, James Richard “Red” McDuff (Bonnie), William Clayborn “Dutch” McDuff (Gwen), his sisters, Rosie Jo McKay (Doug) and twins, Eros Caldwell (Elam), Eunice McDuff and daughter-in-law Carolyn McDuff.
Lee was surrounded by love during his life and is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley, and sons Gary McDuff (Mary Ann), Patrick McDuff, Michael McDuff, Timothy McDuff (Libby), and daughters Molly Levegood (Bill), Mary Lee House (Del) and Laura Karsten (Dan) and grandchildren Mary Levegood, Will Levegood, Jim Levegood, Ashley Pearson (Philip), Hailey House, Melanie House, Madeleine McDuff, Megan Karsten, Jon Karsten, Kelly Karsten, Claire Karsten and great grandchildren Rachel Pearson,
Sydney Pearson and William Lee Pearson (on the way). Lee will be missed beyond measure and his light and love will live on for generations.
