Ruth (Holt) O’Brien, 85, of Missouri City, a former Almeda resident and widow of the late Walter H. O’Brien, passed away, Wednesday, June 20, 2007 in Houston, Texas. Born February 14, 1922 in Union township, WI, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Fern (Van Schoonhoven) Holt. She earned a Bachelor of Education degree in 1944 from River Falls State Teachers College. Prior to retiring in 1984, Ruth was employed for 15 years as a special education teacher at Eighth Avenue Elementary School, Houston. She devoted herself to her community and the Almeda United Methodist Church. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sharon Smith and husband, Don of Ellington, CT; a daughter-in-law, Karen O’Brien of Houston; a son, Daniel O’Brien and wife, Judith of Katy; two grandchildren, Kathleen and Victoria O’Brien. Besides her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her son, Michael Shaun O’Brien. Memorial services and interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
