In Memory of
Alex Benard Rhodes Jr.
-

"To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, And a time to die …” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 (NKJV)

Alex Benard Rhodes, Jr. started his life’s journey in this world on April 23, 1964, the youngest son of the late Alex Benard Rhodes and Faye Rhodes in Alexandria, Louisiana.

Alex attended primary schools in Celina, Texas until his sophomore year at Celina High School, where he played football and basketball, before moving to Jena, Louisiana, where he attended and graduated from Jena High School. While there, he played football and basketball and was inducted into the National Honor Society.

Alex accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the St. Philip Baptist Church, Celina, Texas, under the leadership of Rev. Johnny A. McGee.

Alex loved computers and became a Network Engineer. He worked in his chosen career field for more than 30 years, employed by such giants such as EDS, Sprint and AT&T, earning numerous awards wherever he worked.

While in high school, Alex met the love of his life, Sandra, and on September 20, 1986, they were joined in Holy matrimony. To their union, four children were born: Heather, Olympia, LaSondra and Alex, III. They shared a lifetime together that was exceedingly abundantly above all they could ask or think, including five beautiful grandchildren: Joel, Phoenix, Zaire, Brynlee, and D’Angelo.
From the time Alex accepted Christ, he faithfully served in various ministries at St. Philip Baptist Church, Celina, Texas, Greater New Birth Baptist Church, Plano, Texas, earning its Man of the Year award, and Friendship Baptist Church of The Colony, The Colony, Texas, until moving to San Antonio, Texas, for a new position with CPS Energy as Senior Network Engineer.

Alex loved his family dearly! He loved gathering for family celebrations with both his and his wife’s family. He adored his mother-in-law, and she adored him. When his children were in school, he was very encouraging and supportive by attending their varied school and sporting events, such as band, choir, basketball, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. He was just as supportive of his grandchildren by attending their school and sporting events.

After a valiant 5-year battle with Alzheimer’s, Alex was called home to be with The Lord on November 9, 2024, where he joined his father Alex Benard Rhodes; sister, Sharon; and grandsons, Luke and Sebastian Rhodes.

Alex leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and resilience. Those remaining to cherish and honor his memory are his loving wife of 38 years, Sandra Ann Rhodes, Katy, Texas; Son: Alex Bernard Rhodes, III, Houston, Texas; Daughters: Heather Rhodes, Katy, Texas; Olympia Rhodes (Joel, D’Angelo), Dallas, Texas; LaSondra Rhodes (Phoenix, Zaire, Brynlee), Aubrey, Texas; Mother: Faye Monson, Rhinehart, Louisiana; and Brother: Robert Rhodes (Shelia), Arlington, Texas, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Friendship Baptist Church of The Colony in The Colony, Texas with the Visitation starting at 12pm and the Funeral Service starting at 1pm.  The Burial will take place at 3pm at Celina Community Cemetery in Celina, Texas.

One of the friendliest and nicest people you could ever meet. A smile that would make you smile, even when you didn’t want to. Life happens but I never forget how good of a friend and person you were. Rest In Heaven Alex, 🙏🏾💕
