Barbara was deeply involved in Houston’s arts community and had a lifelong appreciation for creativity and craftsmanship. Raised in a large family in Louisiana, Barbara was the eldest of six siblings and was preceded in death by her parents, Doc and Annie Parker of Ragley, Louisiana. She remained connected to her extended family throughout her life, often visiting relatives and bringing small gifts as tokens of appreciation.
Coming from humble beginnings, Barbara worked tirelessly to become a cultured businesswoman who carved out her own place in Houston for many years. Her drive, resilience, and resourcefulness were defining parts of her life and legacy.
She is survived by her husband and the love of her life, Don Hardy of Houston, Texas, and her daughter, Debra Yates Welch of Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by her son, George William Yates of Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Barbara leaves behind a wide circle of nieces, nephews, siblings, and extended family members who will remember her generosity, her determination, and the legacy she created through her work and her passions.
