Dolores Ann Harris

Surrounded by her loving family, Dolores Ann Harris, 87, passed away on July 16, 2024. She was born on April 24, 1937, in Ft. Worth, Texas to J Marvin Estes and Annie Margaret (Beach). Later, she and her siblings gained a devoted father in Chester Leonard Watts, who raised them as his own children with Margaret. Dolores graduated from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, Texas, in 1955, and Louisiana Tech University with a degree in Education in 1959. She was a dedicated school teacher in both Louisiana and Texas. 

Dolores is survived by her husband, Samuel Harris; her children, Craig Carey, Scott Carey and wife Nancy all of Houston, Texas, Jennifer Mann and husband Cody of Williamsburg, Virginia;  eight grandchildren, Liz Bernardy and husband Rob, Matthew Carey, Hanna Carey, Gloria Carey, Madeleine Carey, Christopher Mann, Joshua Mann, and Seth Mann; her great-granddaughter, Rose Bernardy; her step-son, Robert Harris and wife Kimberly of Sugar Land, Texas; and numerous extended family members whom she loved dearly. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark Carey; siblings, Gary and Janice Watts; and daughter-in-law, Joann Carey.   

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 30, in the Chapel of Houston’s First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway, parking can be found in the South Lot. There will be a visitation at 10:00 AM and the funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, with Reverand Sam Parker officiating. The family extends an invitation to friends to join them for a reception to honor Dolores. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antone Dr. 

Pallbearers are her sons and grandsons, Craig, Scott, Matthew, Christopher, Joshua, and Seth.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association in her name. The family would like to extend sincerest appreciation to the caregivers of The Hampton at Meadows Place and Doctor’s Choice Hospice Care, who looked after Dolores for the past few years, and especially her dedicated Hospice nurse, Ugochi.

What wonderful memories I have of my "Aunt" Delores and the boys. What a blessing to have found family living on the same street in Houston all those years ago. Dolores was one of the sweetest and kindest persons I knew. Much love to Scott, Craig, Jennifer, Sam, and all the family.
