Dorothy Nelle Bottoms, 93, of Marquez, Texas joined God’s celestial choir on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. Dorothy was born on Tuesday, December 28, 1926 in Newby, Texas to Alfred and Eddie Humphreys. Dorothy is reunited heaven with her loving husband, Odell Bottoms along with many family members and dear friends.
Dorothy, a graduate from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Art in Music, taught school to elementary children including music class throughout her career. Dorothy, a woman of faith was always active in music ministry either in the choir or playing the piano.
Dorothy is survived by her niece, Jannell Humphreys Pesquera (Israel Pesquera) of Houston, Texas; great niece, Erin Pesquera Arenas (Hugo Arenas) and great- great niece, Zarah Arenas of Austin, Texas; great nephew, Matthew Humphreys Pesquera (Rebekah Henderson) of Pflugerville, Texas; and loving stepdaughters; Patsy Bottoms Henry (Robert Henry, deceased) of Mexia, Texas; Pamella Bottoms Crider (Cox R (Bob) Crider) of Mexia, Texas; Deborah Bottoms Hullum (Glen Hullum) of Lake Mexia; along with 6 step grandchildren and 17 step great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Paul Bottoms (Joyce Bottoms) and sister-in-law, June Bottoms (Jack Bottoms, deceased). She has many Bottoms nieces and nephews who love her and affectionately call her Aunt Dorothy.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Odell Bottoms; brothers, James Alfred Humphreys Jr., Henry Charles Humphreys; baby boy, James Humphreys Henderson; and her parents, James Alfred Humphreys Sr. & Eddie Elimina Humphreys.
Dorothy never met a stranger. She leaves behind so many extended family and dear friends from Marquez, Buffalo, Jewett, Houston and other communities in Texas.
A graveside service will be held at Sardis Cemetery, FM 1512 Marquez, in Leon County, Texas on Tuesday, October 20 at 11:00 AM. Allen Crosby, Dorothy’s beloved Pastor from the First Baptist Church of Jewett, Texas, will preside.
