Equilla French Hicks began her journey in Luling Texas on September 29, 1926, born to Eph and Alzader French who preceded her in death. Equilla passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025.
Equilla met and married John Fletcher and from this union two children were born, John Jr and Delphine. In July 1956 Equilla, a single mother left Fort Worth, Tx and moved her children to Denver Colorado to join her two sisters. She loved her family and friends. She was a person of generosity, patience, hope and faith. Equilla enjoyed her plants, especially the colorful orchids. She would say "Give me my flowers while I can see them". Her pastime was reading cookbooks even after she was unable to cook any more meals. Equilla and her daughter spent many hours together reading cookbooks. She looked forward to doing a word search puzzle daily and watching MSNBC and Animal Planet. She was a courageous and independent woman who worked at a job she loved taking care of households and cooking for families. As she loved the families, the families she worked with loved her in return. Equilla retired from working at age 82. Equilla's laughter was one of her extraordinary gifts, the sound of her voice was rich, full, strong and comforting to the ear. Equilla was excited to share her life story once she retired. Her best friend David, an author, recorded her story as she joyfully reminisced about the days gone by. David is completing her story and once the story is complete it will be presented to her daughter.
On January 14, 2025, God called Equilla to come home to rest. Equilla is preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, three brothers and her son John. Equilla is survived by her daughter Delphine Holloway, son in law Curtis Holloway, son Andrew Hicks, grandson Terrance Holloway Sr, great-grandchildren Terrelle Holloway, Jolan Holloway, Terrance Holloway Jr. Great-great grandchildren T.J., Delilah, Adonis and her beloved niece Jacquelyn Smith as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
