George Richard Hood passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014 while in hospital after complications following a heart attack.
He entered into this life on December 22, 1938, the fourth child of six to Frances Gertrude Webb Hood and Eugene Joseph Hood. He was taught a strong work ethic, honor, and respect in his home. He had a passion for books and knowledge. He played the ukulele.
He grew up in Carthage, MO. After graduating high school he enlisted in the Air Force. While serving from 1957-1965 he was trained in aviation mechanics and electronic engineering. He met Naomi Louise Fisher while stationed in Kansas City and married her in 1961. Together they created a family of 14 children. They lived many places including Munich, Germany and Kansas City, MO before settling in Houston, TX.
Throughout his life he was employed at General Electric of Munich, Germany 1966-1968; RCA of Kansas City, MO 1968-1972; and Sperry Univac of Houston, TX 1972-1988. He retired in 1988 but continued to be self employed through Hoods and Associates of Houston, TX working with BTX until the week of his passing.
He loved and provided for his family. He respected and honored his parents all his life. He was an avid photographer and ham radio operator. He enjoyed various seasons of intense interest in hobbies, immersing himself wholeheartedly in photography and dark room developing, gardening, fly fishing, radio controlled airplanes and model making. He enjoyed traveling across the continental United States to visit his family and making memories with his wife and children.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers – William Lloyd, Raymond Joseph, Ralph Thomas, and Robert Charles Hood; one daughter, Laura Eileen Hood; one son, Jonathon Eric Hood; and one granddaughter, Catherine Anne Scott. We know that he is rejoicing with those who have gone before and will be preparing for those yet to come.
He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Naomi Louise Fisher Hood; daughter, Linda Ann Hood Carney, (Ken) of Coldspring, TX; Diane Elaine Hood Smith, of Logan, UT; son, Scott Richard Hood, (Marie) of Cypress, TX; daughter, Sandra Kay Hood Capehart, (David) of Houston, TX; Steven Eugene Hood, (Kristina) of Salt Lake City, UT; Jennifer Lynn Hood Scott, (Larry) of Cabot, AR; David Alan Hood, Andrew Jerome Hood, Robert Joseph Hood, and Michael Christopher Hood, of Houston, TX; Thomas Gregory Hood, (Emma-Lee) of Magna, UT and Sarah Louise Hood of Houston, TX; 26 grandchildren and an increasing number of great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind one sister, Marie Kathryn Hood Templeton, (Donald) of Carthage, MO; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The Hood Family would like to thank all of those who have reached out during this time of sorrow with kind words and deeds. It is heartwarming to hear the stories of love and sacrifice shared by those who knew him well. Words cannot adequately express how very much he was loved and will be missed.
