In Memory of
Linda (Sue) Lewellen Hulme
-

Linda (Sue) Lewellen Hulme, 74, of Cypress, TX was received into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on February 20, 2024. She was born to Lewis James Lewellen and Dorothy Ann Thompson Lewellen on May 19, 1949 in Shreveport, La.

Preceded in death by both parents, Sue is survived by her adoring husband of 52 years, Robert (Bob) E. Hulme; brother, Richard B. Lewellen and wife Jean; daughter, Melinda Taylor Callahan and husband Mike; and son, Jonathan Hulme.  Her favorite pastime was being a Nana to her beloved grandchildren that she leaves behind: Levi Taylor, Ella Taylor, Caleb Matlock, Hannah Matlock, Noah Matlock, Mara Matlock, Chase Callahan, Lauren Callahan Nater, and Darla Faulkner. She is also survived by multiple cherished nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Sue spent the better part of her adult life championing for the special needs community. Beginning in the early 1980s - a time when the special needs population was often overlooked - Sue unapologetically blazed a trail through the public school system with a tenacious advocacy to demand her son receive services he was entitled to by law. Refusing to be silenced, she spread awareness at local and state levels by contacting news media and state representatives, wrote articles for local publications, and helped other parents do the same for their own children. Ultimately, this decades-long advocacy evolved into countless hours volunteering for local organizations who serve the adult special needs community, and by continuing to champion for Adults with IDD by serving on commitees who take special needs issues to the state capitol.

Services will be held at Lincoln Wood Baptist Church, 11803 Adel Rd. Houston, TX 77067 on April 13, 2024 at 10:00am. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brookwood Community, JoyRide Center, or Reach Unlimited, all of whom are committed to serving adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, or to the ministry of Lincoln Wood Baptist Church, where Sue was a faithful and founding member for nearly 50 years.

Sue was my loving sister. She was an inspiration to all as she placed the health and well-being of her challenged son Jonathan and aging husband Bob before that of herself. I will always remember her joy for life and her faith in the Lord. I will miss you Sue and thank you for your courage and love for me. Your loving brother Richard.

We met Sue many years ago through Jonathan's therapeutic riding programs. She was always upbeat and cheerful, even through the many trials and tribulations going on in her life. She was inspiring in the way she advocated for Jonathan. Sue was a special angel on this earth and will be greatly missed by many.
