Sharon Lynn Patterson
Sharon Lynn Patterson, 83, passed away on February 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born with a curious mind and a strong sense of individuality, this proud Houstonian lived her life as an independent thinker—someone who questioned, explored, and forged her own path with quiet determination.
Sharon is survived by her two daughters, Maria Teresa Escobar and fiancé Fred Word Mitchim, Mary Ellen Escobar and her husband Edmund “Chip” Diaz IV. She also leaves behind sister Terry Barnes; niece Jessie and husband John Wussow; brother Drew Patterson and wife Jennifer; sister Penny Patterson and niece Taylor Patterson
and her partner Isaac Small. Each of them carries forward a piece of her strength, wit, and unmistakable spirit.
She also leaves behind several dogs and cats who adored her—and who will miss being spoiled by their granny.
Those who knew Sharon will remember her for her sharp mind, her thoughtful perspectives, and her ability to stand firmly in who she was. She was a great lover of music, from Little Richard’s “forbidden” rock and roll of her youth to Colombian and international music. She valued authenticity, loved deeply in her own steady way, and encouraged the people around her to think for themselves. Her legacy lives on in the independence she instilled in her family and in the many lives she touched along the way.
Sharon will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
A gathering to honor Sharon will take place in the Spring of 2026. The family will announce the details when they are ready.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to World Wildlife Fund or Houston Pet Alive!

My deepest condolences to all the family! I know she will be greatly missed! I pray for the healing comfort of Christ as you move forward in your lives without her earthly presence. But she will remain in your hearts forever. As my mom used to say, “ Sharon is/ was one of the smartest people I know.” So true. She knew at least a little about everything and her love of Texas and its history was one of her biggest passions. She leaves behind two wonderful daughters who have a piece of my heart and for that, I will be eternally grateful! As we have our hope in Christ, this is not goodbye but I will see you later! 💕

My dearest cousins, Maria & Mary Ellen, including the Patterson family, my sincerest condolences to each and every one of you. I'm sorry I'm writing so late but I just came across this news. What a wonderfully fun childhood we had especially when we visited y'all in Houston. I remember Sharon and how sweet she was to me and my sister. She's in God's faithful hands now and being enveloped with His love and grace. To my beautiful cousins, you will always embody the best of your parents and please know that their guidance will always be felt, no matter what you do. My deepest love to Maria & Mary Ellen and the entire Patterson family. RIP Sharon
