Valerie Ann Martin
-

Valerie Ann Martin “Val”, 67 passed away peacefully in the arms of her devoted husband (Howell G. Martin Jr.), in their home in Magnolia, Texas, on the night of June 9, 2025.  Valerie was born on August 31,1957 in Tempe, Arizona to Donald O. Teeter and Marlea R. (Heizer) Teeter as the youngest of four children (two boys and two sisters).

Valerie had two sons (Matthew Michael Powell and Tobias Martin Powell) from a previous marriage.  Valerie met the love of her life, Howell G. Martin Jr.  They met in 1994 and were married in the Bahama Islands on November 23, 1997 and remained in the Houston, Texas area for the entirety of their marriage.  She enjoyed a long career in the accounting and wealth management profession as an Enrolled Agent where she was always highly valued.  Valerie enjoyed both domestic and international travel.  While at home Val enjoyed reading, was an expert seamstress and most of all loved her family.  Through the abundance of her love as wife, mother and grandmother, all were blessed beyond measure.

Valerie is survived by her loving husband, Howell G. Martin, Jr.; her youngest son, Tobias Martin Powell and wife Julie of Magnolia, Texas; brother Lawrence (Larry) Wayne Teeter and wife Peggy of Mesa Az; sister Lynne Marie Burgeson and husband Karl of Parker Co.; and daughter-n-law Penny Powell of Magnolia, Tx.; Five grandchildren, Zackery, Ethan, Jacob, Joseph, and Jessica Powell; sister-in-law Linda Elaine Amerson and husband Patrick of Palm Coast, Florida; and one great grandchild, (new addition) June Marie Powell and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Valerie is preceded in death by her parents, one of her two brothers (Dean), and oldest son, Matthew Michael Powell.

Valerie requested a “Green Direct Burial” without traditional funeral and graveside services.  Burial will be at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Natchitoches, La.  Her wishes include a “Celebration of Life” event with date and location to be determined (TBD) in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in her name be made to the charity of your choice as Valerie gave to charities throughout her life.

The family would like to express our gratitude to the entire Oasis Hospice group of Conroe, Texas and especially their care giver team (including but not limited to) RN Jessica, Social Worker Stephanie and CNA Tanesha for their very personal and loving care for Valerie and family throughout Valerie’s journey with Alzheimer’s disease especially the final months and the time of her passing.

A tremendous thank you to all our family and friends who were so supportive and helpful.  Valerie’s best friend of thirty+ years and hairstylist (Denise) deserves special mention.  Valerie was known by many and loved by all, especially our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Thank you one and all, our sweet Valerie is in her heavenly home with Jesus now.
