Elaine Marie (Oslund) Tinker, of Houston, Texas, died October 8, 2014, at Memorial City Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 13 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7901 Westview Dr., Houston, TX 77055, in the Atrium/Sanctuary entrance.
A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor Jim Berggren officiating. The family will receive visitors beginning at 2 p.m. All are invited for refreshments following the service. She will be laid to rest at the Houston National Cemetery following a private graveside service on Tuesday.
Mrs. Tinker was born October 15, 1933, in St. Paul, MN, to Harold Gustav and Agnes Grace (Cuthill) Oslund, (later Helfman). She was baptized November 29, 1936, and confirmed September 28, 1947, at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church in St. Paul, by Pastor Vernon Nelson.
On September 17, 1954, she was married
She was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Houston, where she was active in the Esther Circle, Rummage Sale, Bell Choir, and Hunger relief efforts. Memberships included American Association of University Women – West Houston Branch, the Royal Oaks Garden Club, and numerous book groups. She was a Houston Grand Opera volunteer, and supported local museums and theater groups. She and her husband enjoyed travel around the world, having visited all 50 states and all 7 continents.
She was a 1950 graduate of Johnson High School in St. Paul; later earning a Bachelor of Science Degree with Distinction in 1955, University of Minnesota; and a Master of Science Degree with honors in 1983, University of Houston.
Her work life included parenting for 18 years. She was a business education teacher at Maury High School in Norfolk, VA 1955-1956, and later at Kashmere High School in Houston, TX 1974-1993. She worked with her husband at Tinker Petroleum Consultants after retiring from teaching.
She is survived by her loving family, including her husband, their four sons: Clifton S. Tinker of San Antonio, TX; Steven J. Tinker, wife Karen, and children Jessica, Caroline and Michael of Houston, TX; Rev. William G. Tinker, wife Angela, and children Danielle and Michelle of Pensacola, FL; and Rev. David J. Tinker, wife Jennifer and child Miles of Carmine, TX; as well as her brother, Stuart H. Oslund and wife Barbara of St. Paul, MN
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father Raymond Helfman, and her step-brother Robert Helfman.
Memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.

to Gordon Edwin Tinker at Hazel Park Congregational Church in St. Paul by Rev. Leroy R. Stanford. They celebrated their 60th Wedding anniversary on September 17, 2014.
