In Memory of
Hildegard Marie Knippa Manichia
-

Hildegard was born in Lee County, Texas, and was raised on a farm by her loving parents, Alvin J. and Martha (Moerbe) Knippa. It was an active place with 5 sons, Arthur, Luke, William (Bill), Isadore, and Erich, and 3 beautiful daughters, Hildegard, Elma, and Lillian. The Knippa family spent Sundays at church with family and friends and worked the farm which gave them plenty to eat when so many were in distress during the Depression.

After graduating Giddings High School in 1941, Hildegard lived for a year with her brother, Bill and his wife Adele, in San Antonio, but then moved to Houston for a job. She spent many years at Snap-On Tools before getting an Accounts Payable job with Knigge Automotive Supply where worked until retirement. After retirement, Louis and Hildegard enjoyed traveling and their favorite trips were to Hawaii, Germany, and Italy.

On July 6, 1957, Hildegard married Louis Manichia at Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau, Texas, and became mother to his two daughters, Karen and Celeste. They lived in Houston and were married over 53 years when Louis died in 2011. Hildegard then moved to the same senior residence as sister, Elma, and the three sisters enjoyed many hours of dominoes and memories.

Hildegard was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin J. and Martha (Moerbe) Knippa, brothers, Arthur, Luke, William, and Isadore, son-in-law Jack Giles, and granddaughter, Elyse Marie Giles. She is survived by two daughters, Karen (Ron) Rogers of Florida, and Celeste Giles of Illinois, grandchildren Louis (Bethany) Giles and Betsy (Kevin) Glenn, and great grandson, Lane Giles all of Illinois, her brother, Rev. Erich Knippa, sisters, Elma Schatte and Lillian (Melvin) Hohle, and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express many thanks to the caregivers at Avista Home, Life Pointe Hospice, and Caring Professionals for their gentle and kind care during the last months of her life.

Following this service, the interment will take place 3 p.m. at the Giddings Cemetery in Giddings, Texas.

Aunt Hildegard was a fine lady who loved the Lord and her family. She always had a smile on her face and in her heart. We will treasure hers and Uncle Louis' memory and remember with fondness the family gatherings we had at Grandpa and Grandma Knippa's farm in Loebau.
