In Memory of
Jackie Buss
-

Jackie Buss was born in Port Arthur, Texas on April 29, 1927 to James and Julia Hudson. She graduated from Port Arthur High School and later, Port Arthur Business College where she learned Accounting and Bookkeeping. In 1947, a friend introduced her to her future husband, Lloyd Buss and they were married in the Spring of 1948.

She lived in Port Arthur for over 59 years where she worked as a bookkeeper for Marine Fueling and then for Sabine Towing. She later went back to school and received her LVN license and worked at Park Place Hospital in the Labor/Delivery Room.

Jackie was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Port Arthur for over 45 years along with her mother Julia Hudson and her sister, Dess Cassel. She served as Nursery Superintendent and helped each year in Vacation Bible School and GA's.

After retirement in 1986 Jackie moved to her beach home in Crystal Beach. She loved the beach and enjoyed her retirement by gardening, beach combing , socializing with her many special friends and playing Rummikub with “the gang.” She was a member of First Baptist Church Bolivar where she sang in the choir and loved to help each year in Vacation Bible School. Jackie also assisted in fund raising for the Crystal Beach Volunteer Fire Department as well as the Fire Department in Bolivar.

She lost her home at Crystal Beach in Hurricane Ike in September of 2008 and moved to Tomball, Texas to be closer to her family. She enjoyed spending her time by cooking, working Crossword puzzles and playing Dominoes and Pokeno with her friends. A skilled seamstress, she also enjoyed sewing for friends and family. She also spent lots of quality time with her pet Cockatiel, Max.

After a lengthy illness, Jackie passed away on January 11, 2011 at Houston Northwest Medical Center. She leaves 2 daughters, Alana Smith and her husband, Larry of Houston and Julie Callaway of Spring, and 3 grandchildren, Jacob Hackney of Houston and Matthew and Tanner Callaway of College Station.

Dear Alana,
My heart breaks with yours at the loss of your precious Mother. Even though we know she is home in Heaven with Jesus it is still hard to let her go. Jackie was such a joy to be around. Always laughing and making others around her happy. We will miss her sweet presence in our Senior Adult group. You are in our prayers.
Love,
Darlene and Jack

Our beloved Ms. Jackie-

Oh, how you will be missed. You taught us many things about life---the importance of family, how to find the blessings in the midst of huge storms and the ability to be graceful regardless of our circumstances. Your beautiful smile along with that mischievous twinkle in your eyes will always be remembered. We rejoice that you are in Heaven and free from all of the burdens of this earthly place. You have left a mark on hearts forever.

With love,
Chip, Meghan, Wim, Drew and Campbell
