In Memory of
Larry Eugene Gibson
-

Larry Eugene Gibson, 66, of Houston, Texas passed away on April 10, 2013. He was born on July 21, 1946, in Parkersburg, West Virginia to Eugene "Gene" Edward and Flossie “Marie” Gibson. The son of a U.S. Army Sgt. Major, Larry moved around a lot as a child. As a teen, he felt called to serve his country and spent four years in the United States Army, including an infantry tour of duty in Vietnam.

Larry married Virginia R. Schneider in Hampton, Virginia in 1968. He had a successful professional career in sales, which took him to Atlanta then Houston where he owned businesses that provided fasteners to some of Houston’s largest companies.

Larry was a passionate patriot and friend to everyone he met. He was an avid golfer and after retiring in the late 90’s, he eventually followed his passion for golf by starting a custom golf club business where his services as a professional clubmaker were highly sought after by people from all over the country, including well-known Houston personalities and athletes.

Larry took great pride in his work and could always be counted on by organizations who frequently called upon him for assistance with fundraisers. Photos and letters of appreciation were always proudly displayed on the walls of his shop.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Ginny, son Tom (Teresa) and granddaughter Christina of Houston, sister Jean Ann (Mason) Corrick of Henrico, NC, niece Ann Marie Richards of Newport News, VA, nephew David (Kim) Corrick of Yorktown, VA and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Marie.

A memorial service will be held at Lifepath Church, 17703 W. Little York Road, Houston, TX 77084 at 10:30 am on April 25, 2013. The family will receive guests immediately preceding the service. Condolences may be left in the online guestbook on this site.

We follow a pathway that has no end
as we travel through life day by day.
Together with those who are dear to our hearts
and are there by our side, come what may
But sometimes a loved one must travel ahead
for reasons that aren't always clear.
And we're left behind to continue along,
missing one who is no longer here.
And while it may seem that the pathway has stopped,
it merely has rounded a bend,
And our loved one goes on to a much brighter place
down the pathway that has no end.

I saw this quote once and thought of you......
Our hearts are reaching out to you,
We are deeply sorry for your loss. Please accept our condolences.

I have just heard about the sad passing of a very dear Facebook friend, Larry Gibson . Many of you knew him and played Mafia Wars with him. I have had the pleasure of knowing Larry as friends here for almost 5 years. In this time, we have had many in depth chats, laughs and tears.Larry and I founded Savage Grace, a mafia wars family together and he loved this and the game. He was an amazingly strong man with sound beliefs and ethics. Larry was my mentor, guide and adviser in many areas in my life and he fought so bravely against his illnesses caused by exposure to agent orange in the vietnam war. He truly has been an inspiration to me and many others. RIP Larry...you will be sorely missed and always remembered for the man you were....strong, wise, generous , a true family man and a damned good friend. Deepest condolences to Ginny, Tom and the family.

I only knew Larry through Facebook because of our connection playing in the same "family" in the Mafia Wars game, but I wish I had had the chance to meet him in real life. We might have had some very spirited conversations, considering our Facebook exchanges! Give 'em hell, Larry!

We were 3, from grade 9 - 12 at Ft. Eustis, VA; Danny Bradley, Larry, & me. Where there was trouble. 1 or all 3 were involved.
The "Great Hubcap Caper" of 1962 or 63, fell to us. Danny drove a '49 Chevy, I had a '48 Cosmo. But, Larry drove his Father's '59 Chevy with the spinners hubcaps. Larry didn't like his Father's hubs and offered to trade for Danny'baby moons.
This day, as all others, we were on our way home from school in Danny's car where the larcenous plan was hatched. We all lived within a block or 2; Larry would get out at home and drive his father's car to the snack bar where we all played pinball, smoked cigarettes, drank vanilla coke and impressed the girls -we thought! Danny parked his car & left the trunk unlocked
Soon, Larry arrived, got out of his Father's new car and began to remove the hubs. Job done, he placed them in Danny's trunk & joined us at the machines.
Unbeknownst to any of us, adults enjoying their own drinks in the snack bar watched Larry "steal" the hubs off that '59 Chevy; they called the Military Police.
Danny & Larry got in trouble - I think Larry was restricted for a couple weeks.Danny's Father was the Army Post Judge, Danny got off with a warning. This wasn't the only one of our many escapades that found me 'guilty by association.'
I think of you often old friend. Danny too is gone -another AO victim from Nam, not sure how or why i survive....Semper fi my brothers
