In Memory of
Shawn Yvette Sheppard
-

Shawn Yvette Sheppard, 49, of Alvin entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 8th, in Sugar Land after a very brief but valiant battle with cancer.  When she learned of her diagnosis, she declared “We’ve got this covered because we are FAMILY STRONG.”  She also said she was going to come at cancer swinging, so God handed her a bat, she hit a home run and ran into the arms of Jesus!  She always did things on her own time, so we figure she strolled the bases casually, waving at her adoring fans, and arrived in Heaven at Shawn-Thirty.  Shawn always had a beautiful smile on her face, even when she wasn’t feeling well.

Shawn was born June 2, 1969 to Norman and Colette Hobbs.  She graduated from Needville High School in 1987 and attended Wharton County Junior College and San Jacinto College.  On May 22, 1993, Shawn married Perry Wayne Sheppard in Needville.  They welcomed their son, Nolan Wayne Sheppard into the world on July 21, 1997.  Shawn was a beautiful, loving, devoted and thoughtful wife to Perry and the best mother in the world to their son, Nolan, the absolute joy and light of her life, her greatest miracle.

Shawn loved traveling on vacation with Perry and Nolan to places like the Grand Canyon, Tombstone, Arizona, and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, as well as vacations with extended family to the Frio River in Concan, Texas.  Shawn and Perry just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in May and Shawn’s 49th birthday on June 2nd.  While they had dreamt of celebrating their anniversary in some exotic, faraway place, it really did not matter where they were, as long as they were together.

Shawn is preceded in death by grandparents, Q.D. and Sarah “Dolly” Hobbs of Wharton and Lillie and Thomas “Tommy” Wallis, Sr. of Needville.

Shawn is survived by her husband, Perry Wayne Sheppard and son, Nolan Wayne Sheppard of Alvin; parents, Norman and Colette Hobbs of Guy, father-in-law Johnny Sheppard, Jr. and mother-in-law Lois Sheppard of Orangefield; siblings Norman Lynn Hobbs, Jr. and wife Holley of Guy, Nicole Lynea Mehrens and husband Ray of Guy, and Jason Scott Hobbs and wife Kodelle of Needville; nephews and nieces Mandi Lynn Ditto and husband Hank, Cody Owen Hobbs, Zackary Charles Smith, PVT Garrett Lynn Smith, Katelynn Ann Hobbs, Laney Taylor Hobbs, Landen Scott Hobbs, Jonathon Sheppard, Amber Brock, Jennifer Sheppard, Renee Trahan, Breanna Overman Holland, Ally Overman, Abby Overman, Jack Colton Mehrens, Jessica Ailline Mehrens Durbin and husband Donald, and Charlie Katherine Mehrens; and great-nieces Macie Linn Hobbs, Mckenzie Tylin Newell, Madison Claire Wroten, Kendal Reese Ditto, and Delainey Michelle Durbin; aunts and uncles Sybil and Ray Kacer, Belinda and Rick Straznicky, Tom and Susan Wallis, Vit and Sandra Wallis, and Jeanette Hobbs.

A celebration of Shawn’s life will be held this Wednesday, June 13th, at Creekside Christian Fellowship, 16628 Highway 36, Needville, Texas.  The family will receive visitors beginning at 5 p.m. and the memorial service will be held at 7 p.m.

For those wishing, memorial donations may be given to the charities Shawn held dear:  Autism Speaks, the Alzheimer’s Association, and the American Cancer Society or to a college fund for son, Nolan Wayne Sheppard at Amegy Bank.

“You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it.  That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies, that is why you must sing and dance, and write poems, and suffer, and understand, for all that is life.”  -Jiddu Krishnamurti
