Joanne was born on October 13th, 1937, to Richard Klingman and Alma Estay. She was a late-in-life child and was raised by her father Richard who was 54 years old and her stepmother Florence in the City of Los Angeles. Joanne always had precious memories to share about growing up in the big city of Los Angeles, also known as “The City of Angels”. She always loved all the hustle and bustle of the city life. While growing up Joanne had a pet chicken named Bitty. Her chicken Bitty would always stand guard at the front gate in the yard waiting for Joanne to walk down the street from school. Bitty would start clucking and run out of the yard to greet Joanne. Joanne would have to pet her, then pick her up and carry her home. She also had a pet dog she loved named Butch who was her sidekick and partner in crime.
Joanne met the love of her life, Edward Hampton Cox when she was 22 years old. They were married on April 29th, 1961. They built a beautiful lifetime together spanning almost 56 years. Joanne loved the title of being a “Homemaker”. She also loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and a great grandmother. Joanne was a mother and friend to so many. She grew up as an only child and felt it was so important to have a larger family of her own to cherish. Joanne’s best friend for almost 62 years was Naomi Stock. She would tell everyone that Naomi was her sister from another mother. She loved to cook for her family and friends and had a vast knowledge and love for geography. Joanne has always had large maps hung up in her home to view and she was not shy about sharing her love of geography and maps with others. Gardening and flowers were her second hobby.
At the age of 41, Joanne would tell you that she made the most important decision of her life when she met Jesus and her life was forever changed. So many lives have been touched and changed by that one decision. Joanne served as a great example to her family and friends and to all who met her.
Joanne graduated to her heavenly home on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021, at the age of 83. She was known for her beautiful smile and how she always lit up a room with her presence. Joanne was a wonderful example of faith and never stopped praising her Lord while battling Cancer.
Joanne is survived by her son and his wife, Wade and Kellie Cox, three daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Dave Weber, Colette and Larry Conner, and Melissa and James Pirtle. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
