Lamont Edson Cole "Monte"

Lamont E. “Monte” Cole, 91, passed away on September 6, 2007 in a Nacogdoches hospital. Monte was born February 17, 1916 in Haverhill, Mass. to Forest and Marion Cole. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Anita Stewart Cole. He is survived by his nieces Marion Bates of E. Boothbay, Maine and Janice George of Haverhill, Mass.; 4 grand nieces and nephews; 9 great-grand nieces and nephews and 5 great-great-grand nieces and nephews. Monte entered the U.S. Army on January 4, 1941 then transferred to the U.S. Air Force as a 2nd Lt. Navigator in the South Pacific and Germany, 460th Bomb Group, until he was honorably discharged on October 14, 1945. He earned a Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Texas in 1951 and he worked in Houston as a contract Engineer until his retirement. He was a member of First Methodist Church, Houston. Monte’s greatest interests were his cats; sharing World War II stories with other veterans and working with the Houston Gem and Mineral Society. He was active in the Seniors “50 or Better” Sunday School Class at Second Baptist Church in Houston, where he enjoyed playing “chicken foot”, Bible studies and traveling with the class. Services are planned for Monday September 10, 2007 at 11:30 am in the Chapel of the Houston National Cemetery 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive with Military Honors and the Rev. Jeff Campbell officiating.
