Stephen Charles Coley, of Houston and Leander, Texas, passed away at age 67 after a long illness on May 15, 2026. A native Houstonian, he was born July 14th, 1958 to Gerald and Dorothy Coley.
He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and attended Stephen F. Austin University. He worked at Texas Eastern in Houston and then for Telex in Austin for many years. His love for the water was shown in his scuba diving trips and boating on Lake Travis. His signature curly red hair earned him "Red Man" as a moniker and the the boat got him a "Captain" nickname title as well. Quick with a joke and a smiling face, he was always up for having fun.
Steve is survived by his sister, Carolyn Waidhofer, brother in law Michael Waidhofer, nephews and niece, Bryan, Cole, Evan and Devin Waidhofer along with numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to recognize Sylvan Shore Health and Wellness of LaPorte and all of their staff for the years of care and attention they provided Steve. We are forever grateful!
There will be a graveside service on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 2:30 at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston 77079. Family and friends will gather at front office at 2pm and be escorted to the graveside.
