She married Thomas Oliver Hobson of Coon Rapids, Iowa at the summer home of her parents at Lake Okoboji, Iowa, in 1938. They moved to Des Moines where she lived most of her life. Dee enjoyed being a homemaker and mother of three
daughters. Volunteer work was a part of her life. When her family was young, she worked as a secretary in her father’s manufacturing business. She loved to read about business, child rearing and current events. Cooking nutritious meals was important to her. She enjoyed golf and water skiing. She helped her husband build a summer cabin on Lake Vermillion in northern Minnesota, doing all the work themselves. With the children grown, she returned to work as head of the baby department at the Merle Hay Younkers store. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian church in Des Moines and an active member of P.E.O. She was a quiet, strong woman. Quote to one of her daughters “Your mom is such a sweet lady, so refined, always a lady”.
