In Memory of
Edward Hampton Cox
-

Edward Hampton Cox, a strong dedicated husband, father and grandfather, embodied Christ’s compassion for others and genuinely loved to give of his time, talent and treasures, died on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the age of 85.

Edward is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Joanne; one son and his wife, Wade and Kelli Cox; three daughters and their husbands, Dave and Sandra Weber, Larry and Colette Conner, James and Melissa Pirtle; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers and seven sisters.

Edward was born in Claremont, West Virginia on November 14, 1931 to Wade and Birdie Cox. His father, a coal miner, died before he was born during a cave-in. Edward was a tenacious man who overcame the adversity of only having a sixth grade education to serving one tour of duty in the United States Army’s 101st Airborne in 1951 during the Korean War as a Private First Class and serving two tours of duty in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1958 as an Airman First Class.

Edward, an automobile enthusiast, collected, sold, bartered, and bought nearly 200 cars over his lifetime and in one instance he traded one hot rod for 14 cars. Edward was a well-traveled man having visited most of the states in the United States. His love for life and automobiles all endured despite his early diagnoses of a rare back disease. Despite the pain and struggle of a disease that would have crippled anyone else, Edward fought through the pain for over 30 years to live to the fullest.

At the age of 48, Edward accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Edward’s life was completely transformed by his decision to follow Christ. Many lives have been impacted by his loving and compassionate nature found in his walk with Jesus. He served as an example to his family, friends and all those who met him.

A memorial service in his honor will be held on Sunday, March 5 at 4:30 PM at Northwest Believers Church, 5423 E. Fifth Street, Katy, Texas 77493
