Ernie was born on September 23, 1949 and raised in Waco, Texas. After having graduated from University High School he entered active duty
in the regular Air Force on August 25, 1969, as a Security Policeman and had been deployed to the Pacific region to proudly support his nation’s missions. On August 24, 1973, he was honorably discharged from his duties. Following his enlistment, he had been uncertain of what to do as a career until he had a long conversation with a man who introduced him to the field of instrumentation. He had become intrigued with the engineering field and attended Texas State Technical Institute (currently Texas State Technical College) where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Instrumentation. He took several follow-up night classes at the University of Houston in Industrial Supervision while maintaining full-time employment.
